Swords, unemployed, blah, blah, blah. This sort of thing happens so often, I would question its value as a news article.
Very good point.....But could you really expect any better on this site..?
They could run this same article, with city's and names slightly changed, everyday for a year and it wouldn't surprise anyone...
Same 50 year old living at home with his mother... Same sense of "Surprise" in the news... Same incompetent cops....
I think the only thing missing is the 8 straight hours of live TV coverage, as police, dressed out in the latest, (toy) tactical body armor and news helicopters circling around, while one slightly disturbed 50 year old, holds hundreds of police with real guns, at bay, armed with little more than a replica katana and sitting in his underwear on the kitchen floor playing with his new i-phone and muttering to himself how terrible and strange that new Gaijin who moved into his neighborhood is..

L-o-s-e-r-s-!!!!!!!
This is informative...?
I really have to wonder how Japan has one of the best primary education systems in the world....
Somehow I get the impression these aren't isolated cases and in-fact, when it comes to relationships among JN's, this is probably the norm...
Hence, a nation of 12 yrs olds....

Oh....well.... how about that great support for ringtones...on every single Japanese model phone, including softbank, docomo, au...etc...
If you don't own a Windows computer or download all of your ringtones / music through your phones web interface you're basically screwed...
I don't have an I-Phone yet, but this would be the one big selling point for me... having owned a slew of docomo's, au's & j-phones, I think it's safe to say that one can actually use I-Tunes ON A MAC machine to get music....
Unlike the last Foreign model (Nokia) from Softbank where they guaranteed, uses I-Tunes....
Only later to find out... You must have a fricken Windows machine which runs I-Tunes....(NOT MAC...Windows ONLY) Who would have guessed....
I'm sure not many people on this post even use Mac, much less the open source standard Linux... It's just as well a bunch of novices..
enjoy your your new toy...don't try to understand why...just go about your ignorant bliss...

“I don’t want my friends to think I’m this uncool"
What an idiot....
This is exactly what's wrong with Japan...
And just think, there's 40 million more idiots, just like this guy walking around out there...
Still living at home, mom cooks him dinner every night, cleans his room, while he has posters of Xbox and Smap hanging on his walls and a 32 piece collector set of stainless-steel knives in his desk drawer...

That's why you don't stick around and wait for the cops to show up, nor do you it in front of a camera...
Random acts of violence happen everyday...

“I was scared by the dog.”
"NutCase!!!!!!!"
At least his symptoms of being a wacko showed up now, instead of a year or two from now, kicking a 4 month old baby to death...

At Least he didn't try to kill some innocent children or push somebody in front of a train... It's terrible that he died, but it's good that he didn't try to take anybody else with him... As they are so known to do in this country...

It seems like an accident not a homicide/suicide.
I'd have to respectfully disagree with you...
You almost here about these murder / suicide incidents every week in Japan... In the U.S. it's usually some distraught husband taking out his EX over a custody dispute or something, and the kids just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but in Japan, these parents have this impulse to take their young with them over a bout of depression...
Although, there is slim possibility that she could have just passed out, But it's a pretty slim chance... Japanese are accustomed to taking Onsen baths from a very young age, it's almost baked into their genes.... They can handle their onsen as well as 50 year alcoholic can down 15 beers and seem perfectly fine.
Now if this was some teenage american chick in this same situation, I would be much more inclined to believe that she was sloshed and passed out.

Princess Masako, who is suffering from a stress-induced form of depression
The problem is that she never really wanted to marry this guy in the first place, but after years and years of proposals (6 or 7 years literally) from this prince and family pressure, she buckled under and said yes....
Now she's stuck...

Labor bureau rules that Toyota engineer died from overwork
That's ridiculous, overwork never killed anyone, Bad diet, nutrition and lack of exercise cause heart disease.
Ten minutes of stretching and arm flailing, as many big company's do in the during their morning meetings doesn't do Jack Shxt for your body...
There is no substitute for 30 minutes (or more) per day of a good long run...
And you can't lead a sedentary life for 30 years, then all of a sudden decide you want to start running...Doesn't work that way folks....
So you have that beer & smoke and enjoy that nightly trip to the Izakaya, and just remember, you get what you deserve.

“My professor is a big Apple fan, so when I told him I wanted to come line up for the iPhone, he told me to go for it,”
Must be nice to have the parents pay for your full tuition, plus living expenses plus etc.... Your biggest concern is not about passing an exam at your "Prestigious" University, which graduation is virtually guaranteed, but rather, if you will be able to get an "IPhone..."
Then after you graduate, you can get a part-time Job at starbucks and move back in with the parents till your 40...
But I guess that's just one of the things that makes being Japanese, Japanese....

Police said several of the victim’s friends were at the scene of the crime and came forward.
And nobody tried to help this guy or prevent his death....
They're all accomplices to murder.
Oh, but silly me.... This is Japan, where we go by laws written by a 12 year old.

I kind of feel sorry for him, probably not a bad guy just way in over his head. he deserves a beating around the ears, but not hell. I mean, what does he know about stopping a baby from crying, nothing. He is barely out of nappies himself.
No, screw him, he's 20 fricken years old... This is the way people are raised in Japan, Not to beat kids, but to put off growing up until they are in their late 40's, and then some never grow up.

HonestDictator Nice. I can't say I'll watch it as I'm not a Japanese citizen
That's exactly why you should watch it, for nothing else, than to become aware of what can happen to you...JN Citizen Or Not, as long as you are in Japan, you too could become one of these helpless victims...
Unless you are in the (U.S.) Military, you have absolutely no human rights here in Japan...
Good luck...
