Japanese hospital: where patients go to die.

    Seriously!!

My fiancee's mother went in to have a liver tumor zapped with a laser and they let an intern do the procedure, which ended up burning a significant portion of the surrounding HEALTHY tissue!! After this, her health deteriorated both steadily and rapidly until her death a few months ago.

Out-patient service/treatment is decent enough, but I'll fly back to a States-side hospital before EVER accepting in-patient treatment here (assuming I can make it in time)!

I find that people who are "on" all the time are extremely self-centered, annoying, and boring... I can't stand to be around such people. I support myself and two kids on only 4.5 million per year (I have no spouse to earn a second paycheck). While I am far from "well-to-do", I am able to eek out a living while doing what I like to do, with people who I like to work with...I wouldn't have it any other way...

LIFE is NOT all about WORK. If I worked all the time, then I would have no time to spend with my kids! I REFUSE to live that way...Go stuff yourself, Spa!

Sure, there's racism here. It's not usually "in your face", but yes, it's definitely there. I used to be very sensitive about it. But now, after 13 years and 5 relationships with great Japanese women, I don't really care. There are enough decent and genuinely open Japanese people to make living here worthwhile.

Keep in mind that a lot of the racism here comes from a place of xenophobic ignorance: blind fear of the unknown, the "other". I feel more pity for people who are so ignorant of the big, wide world that exists beyond the rising sun. Like little tadpoles trapped in a tiny pond, racist Japanese people simply have no concept of anything beyond their local mudhole. Their narrow psychological frame of reference limits them in so many ways that they don't even know how psychologically imprisoned they are.

Yes, there are a lot of racist people in Japan. And there are a lot of really wonderful and loving people in Japan. Don't fear or fret the racist ones. Just pity them and try to educate them when you can.

    I love living in Japan!

"lesser quality" - Come on, let's call a shrimp, a shrimp, shall we? The word is: "cheap"! The Hyatt Regency was underhandedly increasing its margins by foisting counterfeit shrimp on its customers and charging premium prices.

"Common industry practice"? Whatever happened to conducting honest business?

Oh, who am I kidding? "Honest business" is an oxymoron...

Hats off to concerned neighbors who actually DID SOMETHING when they noticed something suspicious!

Many people would just go on with their merry lives and say/do nothing...

@Disillusioned: You called it! The idea that nuclear power is "clean", is complete idiocy! You stated the reality quite succinctly! The "quick-fix" mentality, laziness, misinformation, and naked greed of the power industry is disgusting!

I think it's fine if it's legal, but it had better not be in public (i.e. around kids)! In the privacy of your own home? Sure.

Funny. I do translations(often internal memos/letters, etc.) for Olympus and they're always touting all the "reforms" they've made and patting themselves on the back for their "new vision" of the company... Slippery as eels these guys are!
