In the first three months of 2009 Japan consumed 69,096 Metric Tons of Fresh Tuna (a good chuck of it imported). In all of 2008 the US consumed 12,300 Metric Tons of Fresh Tuna. Europe is just a fraction of the US. The vast majority of world eats canned tuna. Usually small Skipjack Tuna which are fairly small and aren't on the verge of collapse. Japan is the problem.

Most consulting companies just want customers to have a clue about what the deliverable should be. Be able to define clear requirements and be decisive about decisions. At least when you are a small company that does flat rate projects.
In the west there's a lot of competition for this kind of work. So much so that it's a bit hard to eek out a living unless it's mostly application development. Way more money in doing work as an hourly resource for large companies. Glad it's working out for Guillaume.

This just in, young people like to rave, old people on J-Today look on with disapproving faces. Activity like this is popular in the west as well. Though the ratio of men to woman is a bit better.

@Tahoochi The issue at hand is the cars in question are high end models with "Fly by Wire" accelerators, brakes and transmissions.
When GM had a deadly cruise control defect in the 90's it took half a decade to figure out what the problem was. These cases are fairly recent and with all due respect the cars are much more complicated now than when GM was having problems.
Fact: The accelerator does NOT disengage when the brakes are hit. This is acknowledged by Toyota as by design. Why?
As to why the issues are in the US? Because the US buys more Lexus than any other country. Last year there were only 26K sold in Japan, only 44K sold in Europe and over 270K sold in the US.

On the lexus in in the article the transmission is electronic. There's also no key to turn off power to the car. The driver of the car was a State Patrol officer who went through a fair amount of drivers training. There's a strong suspicion reported that he couldn't shut the car off or take it out of gear.

Okay, show of hands, how many of you knew Delta was the third largest airline running in Japan (because they merged with NWA)? American has 3 routes form the US to Japan, Delta has 9 + another dozen Japan to Asia routes. In temrs of adding connecting passengers, America can bring maybe 700k to JAL, Delta can bring 3.9M passengers. As a mater of scale, Delta is a better fit, though Delta is a subpar brand and has ruined the 40 year old program NWA was running in Japan.

As far as I can tell they are just scaling up the western roommate concept. Take some luxury apartments only western expats would rent, repartition it into a larger common space and a bunch of small bedrooms. Collect the profit. When one renter leaves the landlord is only out 1/5 to 1/10 until the new tenant is found.
One of the pluses to this concept in Japan compared to the West is the existence of love hotels. Since a couple can get an hourly room they don't have to bother their roommates.

Past Wii sales have been helped a lot by price. Traditionally the Wii was cheaper than the other consoles by at least $100. Even at the cheaper price point the Wii has always been sold at a profit. Whereas the PS3 and 360 needed people to buy 4-5 games before they broke even. (Though Sony could count the Blu-ray discs in that equation.)
At any rate, Nintendo messed up when they left the Wii price point at $199 when the 360 Arcade came down to the $199 price point. They should have dropped to $179 or so.

@Sarge On their own dime? Maybe 1% of the population. A subset of that could actually afford to have the personal attention you can get from the Ritz. But a lot of people go there for business and ultimately aren't paying for it.

While the nomination was just a couple weeks in to his term, the voting was fairly recent. What does it prove? Mostly that the international community REALLY didn't like the Bush gov't.
