Pivot... I just watched him on the news too. He seems irritated by the reports and I believe him when he says he doesn't know if he'll retire, but I think he'll make the smart move and go out on top. Also... I'm just asking, but at 29 can swimmers of his level keep the early 20s swimmers back??? I don't think so. Phelps will only be 27 when he comes back and there's no way he's gonna be able to do 8 again. There was an interview with him saying he may add another event (100 M???). 9 gold medals at 27 for a swimmer???

God, Toshiba... What big babies??? It's like they said you didn't want to play with our ball so we don't want to play at all.

They could do their consumers a favor by sucking it up and work with the Blu-Ray group to improve the technology.

Yeah, Kitajima isn't your typical Japanese guy and he's gotten a lot of flack for that, but he'll do the smart thing and retire on top. Of course EVERYONE loves him now that he's brought 1/4 of Japan's gold medals, but his western cockiness is a turn off even for western people.

And Bigtime Charlie... The same ole, same ole. It's so frustrating to not be able to see what we want. The IOC needs to be convinced to allow us to see whatever event we want on the Internet.

I want to see the top athletes perform from around the world in the events I'm interested in and I'm willing to pay for that. Coverage in Japan and the U.S. is atrocious.

And with the way Japan covers the Olympics doesn't it seem like they have more than 8 gold medals???

The pathetic excuses for politicians must absolutely love when the Olympics or other international events are happening. They get to screw people so quietly during this time...

You guys are confusing me... European1 got me back on track, but I'm still confused. I got my iPhone last week and the woman told me that the 7,280 price wasn't for unlimited use. She told me that to get the unlimited use I would have to go up to the heavy user (I don't know the technical term) plan and that was at 12,780 if my memory serves me correctly.

And something that I don't think that's been mentioned/asked is if all of us who have already purchased the phone will see our fee go down next month or is this the Steve Job B.S. where they lowered the prices and screwed all of us who were out there excited to buy their product and now the people who were hedging get rewarded with the lower fees???

There used to be an IMAX at Takashimaya in Shinjuku when it first opened on the Southern Terrace. At that time they only showed the documentaries and apparently didn't even considered Hollywood motion pictures and the like. I think the IMAX theaters in the U.S. started using their theaters more for Hollywood pics in the last three years or so. They even started selling concessions fairly recently.

Hughgarse... How did you get one? Just pop in a store and they had 'em??? I went to Roppongi yesterday, nothing. Then to a local store east of Tokyo and nothing. I'm in no big hurry but I still want one. Is there a secret I don't know about???

Smithinjapan... Thanks for finally mentioning the whole xenophobic point about selling anything in Japan. Had Sony developed the same exact thing we would never hear the end of how superior Japan is, but the truth is, that aside from Toyota, no company in Japan has the cajones to truly take anything to the next level and revolutionize an industry. The whole emoticon and strap issue are ridiculous. And besides are parents seriously buying this phone for high school boys and girls in Japan???

amannin1... Verizon has never been in Japan and though I'm a PC user I would never consider Apple to have developed "fads or novelties." The iPod is still kicking everyone's butt and they've taken the iPod concept to the phone and they've revolutionized another industry.

I've been to four stores since Friday at 5:00; Roppongi (sold out), Omotesando (sold out), Shibuya (sold out) and the shop near my house in west Tokyo hasn't had any shipped to them and in the glorious tradition of businesses these days (and Apple's style) of course denied when and/or if they would get any shipped to them.

To piggy back on RMGTTF's point... They were never going to have the iPhone at all of their shops. They want to create this buzz that everyone is going crazy looking for the phone so they only sell it at their big shops. If they sold it at all of the shops they wouldn't have had 1500 people waiting in line at the Omotesando shop on Friday.

Softbank is already notorious for having very poor service and if they don't at least start informing "potential" customers about how to or when they can purchase the phone people are just going to wait for Docomo to start selling them.

ZenBuilder... No. No. I gotcha. I just like to keep my comments on Japan because this is where I live and the JT moderator will usually tell us to keep our comments on topic and not allow comments comparing Japan to other countries. I know it's equally as bad in other countries and being a "minority" in my own country I still get harrassed when I'm back home for vacation.

I hope I don't have any trouble getting my phone. I have all of the necessary documents with over two years to go on my visa and I have two Japanese credit cards. I guess I should just go to a bigger shop like Omotesando or Roppongi that will have more people to deal with the international community.

It wasn't an arranged marriage, the two probably genuinely love each other.

To piggy back on "mindovermatter" and "wanderlust" I have read that she declined his proposals SIX times before "agreeing" to marry him. The man seems like a perfectly kind man, but this woman obviously knew early on that this is what would happen to her if she married the guy and I blame his parents and even more I blame those DAMN Imperial Household handlers. I would have no trouble believing that her father's career was threatened (or her potential one) if she didn't finally give in and marry the guy...

YadotNapaj... How in the world is racism not illegal in your eye??? You can not put restrictions on services based on nationality or race. PERIOD. When they put the conditions on "foreigners" only it is no longer a civil matter, but a human rights matter and illegal.

It is xenophobic to irrationally believe that because a person is not from your country they will not fulfill their contracts and obligations and then refuse them services. Japanese people have the same opportunities to leave the country and not fulfill their contracts and obligations. AND don't even bother bringing up having family in Japan. The family is under no obligation (shame is not a legally recognized term...) to pay for a family member's debt unless they are minors or a spouse.

No where in my previous posts did I complain about the cost of the iPhone or Softbank's packages/services. The prices I've heard seem about normal. That 80,000 Yen price tag was shocking to look at as one big number, but it's obvious they are subsidizing the cost of the iPhone and that's why they were able to have the price the same in Japan as it is in most countries.

I still plan to buy one and I don't think the "REPORTED" conditions will keep me from getting one.

YadoNapj... If the restrictions are only being placed on non-Japanese then it is xenophobic and illegal even by Japanese law.

Softbank isn't promoting the iPhone because Docomo is being let in on the action.

That's an arguable list even for me because I would be just as happy adding "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Entourage" and "Arrested Development" to the list and taking out any of the others...
