@japaneseno1 - No, it's not illegal, but good luck getting the Labor Standards Bureau to protect your right to do so. Even the unions that do strike only do it for several hours and as far as I've seen their demands are never met. It's just to inconvenience the companies and get attention, not to secure demands.

@knowitall - Sorry! My Japanese isn't that good. I took the Japanese article to mean it was COMING here, but I guess the nuance was that CALLS from the Google Voice will come to Japan from the U.S. and Canada and not the actual service for consumers in Japan.

I don't know why this article doesn't mention it, but they finally announced today as well that Google Voice is coming to Japan, but this story doesn't say when. I'm guessing the beginning of September. http://bit.ly/bv290R

@MoBass4u - You are so right. Had there even been an inkling of a "gaijin" connection it would have been mentioned in each paragraph.

How many of us have been saying this about movies and TV in Japan for years?

“Most Japanese movies at the moment are like manga, where the audience isn’t challenged to think or encouraged to ponder the themes and storylines. The movies are easy to read and the storylines totally predictable, so the audience never matures...”

@DaveAllTogether - You're so right and what makes it worse is that they probably didn't pay one Yen for it. All of the wedding companies involved in putting that wedding together knew that it was going to get that "viewer rating" and the added news coverage for days. What's sad is that the average girl/woman watching will go beyond their means to achieve anything resembling that disgusting display of vanity and not even realize that Ebizo/Mao didn't pay anything for it.

I've applied only through Saison and Citibank in Japan and was issued a Mastercard and Visa Gold card from Saison and a regular Visa from Citibank. The only problem I had was only recently with Saison. After 15 years of an 800,000 Yen limit on the MC and a 1,000,000 Yen limit on the Visa Gold they suddenly told me that actually the limit was 800,000 Yen combined. It took them 15 years to realized that??? So now I'm over my 800,000 Yen limit by 35,000 Yen.

IMDB.com said it opens July 23rd in the U.S., but I've just seen MSNBC.com and it says July 16th.

@genjuro - It opens the same day in the U.S. as it does here, July 23rd. Very rare, but w/ Watanabe in it they of course can subtitle it in time...

Well said "cleo." EVERY seat is a priority seat. I give up my seat to anyone in need no matter where I'm sitting.

Seriously, only a 5 day stay in Japan for that??? They kept me overnight for an ingrown toenail surgery and 8 days for surgery for ligament repair on my ankle. I guess I just assumed an appendix is more delicate than my ankle was...

YAY! Good on her! The fact that the idiot refused to move justifies it even more.

@taj, I think you're reaching just a little. They keep you in the hospital for a minimum of a week for ANY procedure in Japan, so I'm sure with an appendix being taken out it's at least 10 days to 2 weeks. You have a point with the 1st tri pregnancy, but I think that could simply be verbalized and the same goes for the H.S. kid. If he did have his appendix taken out he could've said that.

I'm sorry, I just don't feel sorry for the kid. I bet you he won't be sitting in the Silver Seat anymore.

@CNC, Yes, I'm with "taj." Please connect the dots. How in the world does having a different family name cause more divorce? I've been with thes same women for 15 years. We have different family names and we've been together longer than my six siblings HAD been with their spouses combined and they all went the ridiculous "traditional" route and took one name.

And @CNC and @Bogi... First of all, why can't they have hyphenated names? we've been doing that in Latin America for ages. Our social problems have absolutely no connection to the use of family names. If others are confused, that's their issue. The family should decide what they want to call their children. I don't care if it confuses you. I know what my name is.

I think a very simple way to solve all of this is that everyone keeps their own family name as a default name for registering marriages. If the couple decides (on their own) that they want to have one family name that is their decision. THEN... When it comes to the children the male takes his father's family name and the female takes her mother's family name. It really is that simple.

The whole issue has always appeared to me as men wanting to label their property. Get over it and find some other way to feel like a man.

Seems like a total waste of time because more and more places go smokeless every day. It would be a good idea for a website though.

Because Sony and the rest of the market in Japan was too slow at adapting to digital entertainment and focused all of their energy on controlling digital entertainment and the stupid MD they lost the battle to Apple. Now they're FINALLY joining the movie/TV area for digital downloads more than two years after Apple. It's too late Sony. It's more than obvious you're blocking movie and TV downloads on iTunes in the Japanese market so you can force people to buy your late to the market phones and digital players. No one is going to switch to Sony. Had you looked after your customers instead of trying to control digital entertainment, Sony would have been the player to beat... 8 YEARS AGO...

Sheeple, with this picture I'd agree that there are many PRETTIER girls in Japan, but I've seen other pictures where she looks hot.

NOT ONE of the other GIRLS in this picture can hold a candle to Aya and what, they're all in their low to mid 20's??? Debucho and Gurukun are right, "smart, sensual, ages well and like wine."

My wife isn't in the sexy category but she's like wine and at 48 makes all of these girls (except for Aya, Sorry sweety) look silly.

Not that much to write home about from this picture. She certainly looks tall.

Also, did the girl in the white mini really make it to the top 11???

Where's the byline in this story??? And... What are some of the companies on this list??? Instead of printing rumors why isn't there investigative reporting in Japan??? What the media needs to realize is that they have to stop protecting companies. If they investigate correctly they can publish the names of the companies in question and then real change may occur. The media is suppose to be working for the citizens, not the companies.

One of my former students is in this pic! Pretty cool! She took the test and left after her 10th grade year.
