That's a great point some14some... I didn't think about that. I also see a lot of Prius taxis so a large number of sales probably come from huge discounts given to companies and the govt agencies...

I'm not surprised by this. The government and corporations control the media in Japan. That's why this is not an issue in Japan. The media is treating this as a foreign problem.

Instead of "other" reasons JT should have included prices are better AND you can't find the products you're looking for. I'm like the others who have posted, but even when the Yen is at 120 to the dollar it's still cheaper to buy overseas.

Pukey2... I seriously wasn't going after anyone on JT about Ms. Kim. I just find it frustrating that Korea insists on ignoring protocol when using English for their names in international competitions when using English and the English media just accepts it or may even be ignorant to the fact that her last/surname/family name is Kim.
Considering we are writing in English on this site her FIRST NAME IS Yu-Na and her LAST NAME IS Kim. If I'm filling out OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS her GIVEN NAME is Yu-Na and her SURNAME/FAMILY Name IS Kim.
This is important because people speaking English to her will call her Ms. Yu-Na and that is incorrect. It's equally incorrect to address her simply Kim.

Mao has nothing to be ashamed of. She busted her butt to get gold, but sometimes in the world of sports there are players who just take everything to another level and Yu-na (We're speaking English here folks) her first name isn't Kim...) But I digress... Yu-na is just taking things to the next level. Jordan did it with basketball, Federer in tennis. I just wish Mao would've turned that frown upside down and said she did her best to spite people who think she had to put on an act of disappointment. Even though I know she wasn't...

LoveUSA, I hate subjective judging, but you're saying they should get extra points for attempting jumps and failing. That's the risk they take. If they nail it it's a no brainer and they win. Fail and they lose.
In basketball a dunk looks better, but it's still only 2 points and equal to the boring lay up.
Takahashi should be commended for going for the gold by doing the quadruple, but shouldn't have won. He didn't hit it.

Momotarou... It's not that I expect detailed coverage of athletes from other countries, but being American I KNOW they do interviews with the athletes who won medals even if they weren't American.
Sunday in the moguls when they Japanese woman placed fourth they immediately went to her and that's what I expect, but I heard nothing from the medal winners after that.
I want to see the Japanese team do well, but the media coverage is horrendous.

I'll start it off with the standard comment about international sporting events in Japan...
Is the Olympics the one when all countries from around the world get together for the love of watching the best athletes compete in fellowship with athletes from EVERY part of the world??? Well I haven't seen that Olympics yet.
As far as I can tell only Japan is in the Olympics. Ask one person in Japan who won the gold in the men’s 500-meter speedskating final and they won't know...

GREAT STORY! There should be a couple of reporters at each media outlet to find good news every day and post it on the front page and/or in a newscast.
@Schopenhauer, Chuo Line has about a one meter gap between the platform wall and the rail. Most of the Chuo Line platforms stick out which makes the gap and there is construction going on right now on a few other stations.

@Schopenhauer, JR Chuo line has a very reasonable gap between the rails and the bottom of the platform wall. At the majority of stations on Chuo line the platform goes out about a meter and most of the stations have been upgraded or are being upgraded now.

"Nanotechnology", How in the world can you say that NHK "doesn’t have the obviously known nationalistic, US/UK-bias CNN, ABC, and BBC?" What are you talking about??? NHK IS the actual mouthpiece for the government and businesses of Japan.
While I don't trust the media in general the big media you're complaining about is only interested in money. There's no scandal on the US/UK networks trying to Japan bash in order to improve sales or take away attention from the pathetic U.S. automakers. They're only trying to keep this story in the news so that people will watch their programs.
You claim to be watching the news the last three weeks and that ridiculous early excuse about the floor mats was proved that it was just an excuse. And anyone who believed that a stuck floor mat was the reason for the accelerations is naive.
The REAL problem was a computer programming issue in the car with acceleration/brake mechanism not communicating well. Floor mats?!?! Hah! So laughable!
The problem has been that Toyota wanted to be first with a hybrid and I guarantee you that the problem was known early on, but this being Japan no one had the guts to bring attention to the problem and even if some “kohai” brought attention to the problem the person in charge would have told the “kohai” to keep his/her mouth shut.
As far as gaining back trust, Toyoda has no choice but to start disclosing their business practices. They may come back stronger, but it’s going to take a few years. Had they just taken their time in developing the hybrid instead of being greedy and thinking only about money we wouldn’t be discussing this right now.

Ummm... Sorry, but it's not at all possible for Cathy and Chris to have "dual citizenship." Japan doesn't allow it. So how could the JOC allow them to be part of the Olympic team??? I'm all for dual citizenship, but I HATE it when Japanese officials only want to allow things when people are "famous" or they can benefit in some other way.
At this point Allison can have two passports because she's not an adult so it's not an issue at all. The U.S. allows dual citizenship, but I'm not aware of Georgia.
Very weird story...
The only thing I know is that people are supposed to turn in their passport if they decline to declare citizenship at 20 years old. Of course the literal turning in of the passport doesn't happen. I have two friends, one Canadian/Japanese and the other American/Japanese and they never went through any formal thing, but they both consider themselves Canadian and American respectively. When they go to Japan they use their Japanese passport. When they go to other countries they use their Canadian and American passports.
Can anyone with info let us know how the JOC can extend nationality rights to the two siblings???

I bought my EeePC a year ago from Asus and I LOVE it. The price for this one is only 10,000 Yen more and anyone in the market for a netbook, I'd say go ahead and get it.
The EeePC I have now hasn't had even one small problem and I am still surprised at how much of a workhorse it is. I've even done video editing on it. I can't wait to see what they'll have on the market when I'm looking for a new net book in about 3 years...

I'm not sure why "888naff" and "Katsuro1000" believe a court ruling has no merit. It signifies that the party not following the ruling is breaking the law of that country and the signatories to the treaty are suppose to honor the court rulings of that country.
If you break a law in Japan that isn't a law in another country and flee, extradition treaties would still need to be honored for the turnover of a suspect back to Japan.
