TumbleDry, I was thinking the same thing. I noticed that the Apple Japan site is conspiculously not saying anything about the iPad. Are they waiting to find a way to justify ¥60,000 for the 16GB version before they show it on their website??? They will be very stupid if they don't match the $499 U.S. price. Also, Apple should get Softbank to allow iPhone users to include the iPad in their already purchased data plans. That's only fair. Why do I need to start another Softbank account to use the device? Yes, I know it's a different device, but I'm saying this would spur more sales of the iPad and more users will use Softbanks already overpriced network.
And Wi-Fi in Tokyo SUCKS! I'm never going to pay for a Wi-Fi service.

I love newspapers, but I don't feel sorry for these guys at all. There's no real journalism in the newspaper industry in Japan and the government has protected the industry for decades by having fixed rates on subscriptions with the ridiculous reason being that newspapers are cultural and should not have discounts.
Allow the newspapers to have real competition by giving discounts to subscribers and with an increase in circulation (read: more readers to see advertising) more advertisers will start putting ads in the newspapers again.
But alas I give newspapers about 20 - 30 years before they're entirely online and I will not pay for an online subscription to a newspaper.

That man has his hands full and that's just with the two kids and the dog. I imagine adding work to the equation doesn't allow for much more time for him to have a smile.

In my time here I think it's fairly common for people who commit suicide to NOT leave a note, but does anyone know if Japanese people normally leave suicide notes???

So they "consumated" their relationship, but not their marriage. Is that the technicality here??? Pretty sad. It's not like there are Japanese people running for U.S. borders.

@Hockeybuff I LOVE(D) my Shure SE530s, but the wiring started to fray after 3 months or so. I would have loved to take another chance, but at 50,000 Yen PLUS, I couldn't. For anyone who wants to take a chance, the sound is AMAZING.
I did invest in some WIRELESS Sennheiser headphones and I love them. To be fair the sound isn't as amazing as the Shure headhphones, but much better than average and not having to worry about wires anymore makes the loss sound of the Shure's much easier to take. They were also expensive, but for people who have long commutes and hate wires these are great and the technology is catching up fast to when the prices will be more reasonable.
JT isn't lett me post the entir site for the Sennheiser wireless, but if click on this link and just look down a little for the "MX W1" you can find out more.

My2sense... That WAS the guy...
The man threw her over the balcony last week and he was not in jail. Shouldn't he have been charged with attempted murder or at the very least still been in jail awaiting charges???
This must be an example of domestic disputes not being "real" crimes in Japan.

MartyP... I'm not sure if the iPhone can be bought directly from Apple in Japan. I bought mine at a Yodobashi Camera store that has Softbank set up in their store.
Does anyone know if people can go straight to the Apple Store to get an iPhone???

I think that is going to make a huge difference in terms of early sales of the Nexus and hopefully this will lead Apple to abandon their stupid one carrier policy.

I'm totally open to buying Sony, but I love my iTouch and iPhone and unless Apple does something really stupid to either of those devices I will never buy Sony simply to be able to download their content. What they (and Apple) really need to do is allow downloads from any device. The way these companies manage this stuff now is really ridicululous.

I love all of the delicious food choices in Tokyo, but doesn't Tokyo have 12 million people and Paris like 2.5 million??? Seems to me that Paris would still be the gourmet capital.
That being said, isn't obvious why they would "crown" Tokyo the gourmet capital just before the release of the their 2nd edition of Michelin???
I was lucky to get a guide as a gift last year and I just use it to be aware of restaurants I would never hear about.

@rao007... I won't get into the childish name calling. All I will say is that the background information you claim gives more information is TOTALLY irrelevant to the story and doesn't tell anyone anything as it appears in JT. They're TWINS. What situation are you referring to that gives it more background information??? JT doesn't give us any situation to give anyone a perspective. As it's written the younger/older part of the story is irrelevant.
Now that Yelnats has pointed out (from what he/she has read elsewhere) that one twin apparently has the same given name I can get a better understanding, but as JT has chosen to publish this story it's still irrelevant whether a TWIN is younger or older. If they weren't twins I would understand using younger vs. older.
The only other reason I could think of (aside from Yelnats post) for choosing to go with younger/older is because they didn't want to use suspect and victim for some reason. That's the way the article should have been written.

Only in Japan would they HAVE TO make the distinction that a TWIN was older. Ridiculous! If it's important to the story, like, "She was angry because the parents gave preferential treatment because she was older by 15 minutes" then OK, but they're family, who cares if she was younger or not??? Isn't it bad enough that she stabbed her sister???

Because I'm one of the lucky ones, I'll be honest and include my salary information here, but before I do I have to ask if it is cheaper for BOEs to hire through dispatch companies???
Our school uses a dispatch company only because we couldn't find a teacher for only four classes. That being said it costs more to use the dispatch company than to hire directly and our school pays salaries even to part-time teachers based on their teaching hours. If they teach 10 classes a week they are paid for 10 classes a week regardless of holidays, school events or vacations.
OK... The information I'm giving about my salary isn't to brag, but to show that there are some schools that don't discriminate, but I do realize these jobs are almost impossible to land. Just for the record I answered the ad for my school in one of the major English daily newspapers.
This is my 5th year at the Jr./Sr. high school and my take home pay each month is about 395,000 after taxes and my school pays for health insurance and pension according to the law. My summer bonus this year was 690,000 Yen after taxes and last year my winter bonus was 1.2 million Yen after taxes.
Like I said, I'm one of the lucky ones and I post these numbers out here so people can see what the dispatch companies are doing to teachers because the government refuses to police these agencies. What they should be doing is requiring BOEs to hire directly.
By the way, I'm a real teacher and have a MS in Education.
