JR struggle with the language. They sell フリきっぷ (free ticket) but you have to pay for it. Should be called Multi-ride ticket.
Also, I dont know how many rural trains have been designated ワンマン but actually have a crew of two or more on board.

These Hollywood clowns all come out here saying how great the people are, very few of them getting out of the comfort of the 5-star hotels and limousines. If they spent sometime living here and experiencing the drunks on late JR services, they'll see just how 'gracious' these people can be.

tetsukon, Couldn't have put it any more succinctly if I tried. All they care about is getting their commission, not whether the consultant is happy or has any opportunity for career progression, no matter what spin they put on it. When I first started working in IT 11 years ago, a colleague described them as the pimps of the game - also an apt description.

JR Tokai need to advertise in English on their website that they do run other trains besides the Shinkansen. I recently took a trip on the Hida that runs on the Takayama Main Line - a trip I would have found difficult to find if didn't live here and or didn't know enough Japanese to work out a timetable.
Agree totally about the Nozomi's and the passes. I use them semi-frequently to go to Kansai, and usually never have a problem finding a seat in Jiyuseki. Maybe just restrict them in heavy periods instead.

There's already next to no competition on this route since ANA pulled out years ago and JAL joined One-World; this just makes the route even more anti-competitive.

Its location is a major pain. Essentially 4-5 hours are wasted before your aircraft starts moving, and thats assuming it has no delay. It's a fine airport otherwise, though Terminal 2's Arrivals hall feels a little tired.
The Shinkansen viaducts are still in place, as are the two stations. The JR narrow gauge line from Narita uses the viaducts, and I'm sure you know the two stations that were planned as Shinkansen stations are now shared between Keisei Railway and East JR's narrow gauge line to Narita.
