We can only hope that more people like these guys have the courage to escape successfully from that brutal and disgusting regime north of the 38th parallel, and in turn it become an uprising that leads to the collapse of the regime similar to what we've seen in the Arab world this year. Sadly, Kim Jong Ill keeps his people even more suppressed than Ghadaffi and similar Arabic despots so sadly it will take something major for an uprising in North Korea to ever eventuate.

Yay! Even less choice. Good luck my gaijin mates who want to get a tin of baked beans - you'll have to order them in from Singapore now.

My biggest fear about flying is if I was ever to be in an aircraft during a barrel-roll. Looks like this flight came pretty close to having one. 130 degree turns I would certainly notice if I were on board.

Can it simulate accidents like aircraft control systems can? Might be useful when the bosses at JR's and other railways in Japan pressure their drivers into dangerously breaking speed limits in order to keep to a schedule.

Lloyd’s, which has no connection with Lloyds Banking Group PLC

No official connection, just something in common. Lloyds TSB and Lloyds of London have both lost money.

None of the people at the head of Railtrack took their own lives as a result of the Potters Bar & Hatfield accidents here in England, but people were made certainly accountable - and lead to Railtrack being abolished. This guy shouldn't have taken his own life for this - a drastic overreaction. Instead, he should have seen what he could do to improve from the accident that lead to these circumstances.

High yen could 'hollow out' Japan's industrial heart

What do you mean could? It already has. An example, I went shopping for a TV recently since returning from Japan - not one of the Japanese branded TV's was actually made there. They were mostly Chinese made, with others from Taiwan & Thailand.

The same for the automotive industry, only the top end stuff is made in Japan now, the less costly components and lines are made off shore because Japan is just too expensive.

I look forward to Andrew Jennings' next outing on BBC's Panorama on the scandal ridden FIFA. Hope he gets to interview this guy.

The move comes in response to a massive communications breakdown right after the March 11 disaster when overloaded mobile phone networks crashed as millions of people tried to make calls. Seven-Eleven said in a statement that the phones will only be used in the case of a major disaster such as an earthquake, typhoon or if a blackout occurs.

So, how exactly will these phones avoid the same problems that afflicted the public payphone network that also failed on 11 March? Will they have a hot line to the bat-phone or something? Are these phones to be on a different circuit to the aforementioned public phones?

What's up wth all the white shirts and dark grey slacks?

That's just the drab sarariman wear they all dress in. I agree with the short sleeve comment - they look nasty, and like you should be in school or as a coach driver in Outback Australia. I wore thin fabric long sleeves during the brutal J summers I experienced.

This is not going to be like Lehman shock when things kept getting worse.

Beg to differ. Japan's long term economic outlook is bleak. The high-end technical sector may provide some relief but even the big J companies are moving so many services and manufacturing jobs off shore. There's no population growth nor immigration to stimulate domestic growth either. Would the last one turn off the lights as they head out please.

then everyone quits!!! YAY...and the price of everything goes up to counteract the loss of taxes on cigs.

If government of J could actually keep a PM in office longer than 12 months for once and grow a pair, then they'd raise the Sales Tax which is what they've been talking about doing for ages. Not just for any loss of taxation revenue due to reduced smokers, but to start tackling the Fuji-san sized debt the government owes.

This columnist clearly never lived in Japan, or never had to go shopping for himself. If he had, he'd have found Tesco's to be a life saver if you want to eat something from home once in a while. Feel sorry for my gaijin mates still in Japan who crave a simple fry-up one morning and can't get one of the basic ingredients for it easily.

Posted in: Tesco failed to imprint itself on this fragmented, hyper-crowded and competitive consumer market. Japan's notoriously conservative and fussy shoppers simply had too many other choices.

How is this headline relevant to Japan Today?

Moderator: Bizarre question. There probably isn't one news site in the world that only carries stories about its host country. I think you'll also find that the Dodgers have a Japanese player.

But the pubs & post drinking establishments such as curry houses or kebab shops weren't - where it's cash only!
