What is done taiji is not humane at all. Rather than looking at this as to eat whale or dolphin look at it as an animal rights issue.

while I see no problem with eating whale or dolphins in a sustainable way, killing them should still be done with the minimum of distress to the dolphins and what happens in Taiji is barbaric. The rest of the world has generally accepted that killing animals for food should be done in a humane way. Why doesn't the Japanese government simply create a law that killing dolphins must be done in a humane way? Again the Japanese government are the ones that allow this "BS" to continue.

ive had countless arguments with Japanese that deny any dolphins are killed in Japan, despite the photographic evidence of dolphin meat for sale in supermarkets.

They would ask a fellow japanese who would say no, me being a foreigner could not possibly know so I was wrong.

Dont know if this deserved the oscar, the article doesnt even say what other films were in the category. Sloppy journalism

IMO there is something in the Japanese mentality that makes this common. There is a social pressure for women to have children in Japan and get married, however many of these couples especially women are not prepared emotionally and mentally for the relationship yet alone children, combine that with lack of family and government support. These women are children mentally themselves.

As a side note I think abortion is frowned upon in Japan however killing the child once born seems to be more acceptable...I know thats not the right word but dont know how else to describe it.

it was a way to cater to the unions and perhaps stray people away from buying Toyota and buying US cars.

Really? The fact that people died and were severly injured due to faults in Toyotas vehicles is just a trick to cater to unions. Some people on this forum are sick.

The fatal crash involved Saylor (45); his wife, Cleofe (45); Mahala, their 13-year-old daughter; and Chris Lastrella (38), their brother-in-law; all four perished, said Detroit News previously. Details of the chilling accident that prompted the NHTSA to investigate the crash include the 2009 Lexus plummeting over an embankment and bursting into flames. The family was able to contact a 911 operator, saying they were unable to stop the ES 350; Lastrella advised the operator that the Lexus had no brakes. Most poignantly, the 911 tape, recently made public, included the family asking one another to pray at the recording’s end, just before their deaths, said Detroit News.

Federal highway safety inspectors recently released details of that deadly crash including a finding that, reports the LATimes, involves a gas pedal design in the Lexus ES 350 sedan that actually increases the likelihood of the pedal being “obstructed” by a car’s floor mat. Including the California fatalities, the NHTSA received 100 complaints involving 17 crashes and five deaths, said Detroit News previously. One-third involved the Lexus ES 350, the Free Press said earlier.

i listened to a podcast from NPR foreign dispatch and it followed a company of US troops in afghanistan. They called in air support from Harrier Jets for a single Taliban guy with an RPG, which seems a massive disproportionate reaction. Reminds of the scene in Jarhead, surely a single sniper would be better and limit civilian casualties.

way to jump on a bandwagon John Key. Dont just do it because Australia is doing it, if this is what National believes in then they should have had the balls to do it themselves.

after i dislocated my elbow, was later sent to physio, the physio was to scared to talk to me because I was a foreigner even though throughout everything i spoke in Japanese. When she finally did come all she did was look in a book and say maybe this or...this. Medical tourism in Japan it will never happen especially when there is Singapore, Thailand, India etc nearby, much cheaper and friendlier.

Branded You may think US cars are too good fine for you, but i think the rest of the world agrees with me. Try opening your mind a bit and see that there are many other good Automotive companies out there. BMW, Audi, Fiat, Skoda, volvo etc etc

As to the timeline of events over the past recalls this is from a Guardian article.

State Farm, America's largest car insurer, today said it warned federal safety regulators about a rise of reports about the accelerator fault in late 2007.

Toyota GB has said it knew about accelerator problems, which have caused its cars to speed up suddenly, from the end of 2008, but could not say when it received first reports of the Prius brake problem.

There was also anger at Toyota's refusal to admit a recall of the Prius was imminent in recent days.

Branded you do realise there are many other countries in the world that produce cars that also do the same thing and are alot more attractive and practical. US car industry got in the crapper because they produce bad cars. US cars are not popular overseas, Japanese manufacturers on the other hand are sold globally.

why anyone would want to drive an American is beyond me, ugly things and this was on the cards for Toyota, look what happened to Mitsubishi a while back. Toyota got too big for its britches, even now its still very slow to admit fault. Toyota has itself to blame and has to be very quick now to try to repair its reputation.

Why would someone buy a Toyota now, its a company that refused to admit fault and attempted to blame drivers for the increasing complaints. If the US Govt hadn't intervened then Toyota would still be denying it.

IMO its the combination of foods that we eat, a hamburger is terrible because the overcooked meat in a stodgy bun takes the body so long to digest before the body can even start to clean itself, japanese foods work alot more in synch with each other. Its not, what were eating its how were eating. EG having a salad before a rear steak is great the acids from the lettuce help breakdown the meat faster. Food shouldnt be over cooked, rarer foods are again more easily absorbed by the body.

Western food has lost its origins and combines too many things into one making it hard to digest and making the body work harder not allowing the organs time to do what they do best which is clean toxins from the body

permanent residents no, citizens yes. Though it should be easier to become a citizen in Japan. If you choose to keep your nationality and not become a citizen I don't think you should be able to vote in National Elections.

the increasing over commercialization of Golf as companies seek to jump on the band wagon of female golfers will inevitably help destroy the game.

Immature girls buying into golf for the cheap accessories rather than any actual interest in the game is not good for it. This is a prime example

im pretty sure GM invented the electric car far ahead of the Japanese sadly battery power and interest groups eventually killed it. As certain people on this forum are attempting to say that

Ford and GM want to let people get vouchers for cars that they have not developed or produced yet.

This is not the case as the article says the program has been successful and stocks of new models have been depleted therefor for consumers to get newer cars they may have to wait and would miss out on the cash for clunkers program. Nothing to do with cars they have not developed yet.
