Good luck to her finding it. Austria isn't Japan in a sense that no one cares about anything left behind that you will probably find it the same place you left it even after several hours, if not at a lost and found.

If I'm not mistaken, the only place in Japan that I saw a tip box at the counter is a Cold Stone Creamery branch. In the Philippines, I only give tips as a bonus to the one giving the service, specifically taxis. Some restaurants in the Philippines are weird in that regard. In the folder/clipboard/tray or even the bill itself, the words "NO SERVICE CHARGE" are displayed prominently, in large, boldface, uppercase letters. It's like they scream "TIP ME!!!" Still, I give tips depending on the service and/or the food. If the bill otherwise includes a service charge, no tips for you. Tips shouldn't be required. Because if it is, it wouldn't be a tip anymore, as another post said. It will become a fee.

Parental supervision?
I'd like to share what I saw on the train last Sunday night. I assume it's a family of 4, one early teen girl and a younger boy. The person I assume to be the father gets along pretty well with the kids, while the person I assume to be the mother justs sits (she's the only one sitting by the way) busy with her keitai. When the girl was able to sit beside her after the seat became vacant, the girl is rather affectionate with the mother - who is still pretty busy with her keitai at this point. Can't really judge what happens in their family but I found the preoccupation of the mother with her keitai a bit strange - for non-Japanese standards.

Apparently she does her own hair. She apparently has a picture unbraided in Wikipedia. And yes, she'll be 49 this year.

I somewhat agree with skipthesong. If the "morals" of the media didn't degrade, there wouldn't be such a rise in teen pregnancies. Now it may be necessary to teach sex ed at a younger age, but 5 is a little too young. No earlier than 7 may be better.

Up to 5 years in prison and a fine for "illegally accessing someone's account" just to delete their character? That's a bit over the top isn't it?

What a poor place to pick for a blind date. I've gone on some "blind dates" before (a.k.a. eyeballs) and we always do it on a public place with lots of people. Meeting up in a fringe area like in a parking lot is asking for trouble.

When you've come accross beggars asking for money to "buy food" and giving them real food (a pack of crackers for instance) makes them frown, you'll think twice giving them spare change. Some homeless/beggars are like that because they're just outright lazy. Sad thing is you really can't tell the difference.

Just had a thought...
Does this include women who are underdressed and yet makes a fuss about covering their behinds when climbing stairs? If they're so conscious about someone seeing the inside of their skirt, they should wear longer skirts instead.
If you wear revealing clothes, don't complain if they work.

"Fashionable" is such a subjective term...
I agree with some of the above posters that the amount of skin shown is not proportional to beauty. I actually find ladies in dresses/skirts more pleasing to look at. "Popular fashion" is an eyecatcher for sure, whether they have the body for it or not. But the impression it leaves is not necessarily the best one.
And reading this article reminded me of a girl I saw sitting infront of the church I attend. She couldn't be more than 15 years old, but her shorts were so short and loose that you can see up to there. If I had a daughter she wouldn't be seen wearing such clothing - especially not infront of a church.

I'm Filipino, and English is my second language. It's easier to learn basic Japanese grammar if you put it side by side with Tagalog because the patterns are similar. Word-for-word substitution is possible in most cases. Word equivalents in the vocabulary also exists, unlike in English. But as the other posters stated, the writing system is another story.

Baby hatches would work if and only if the mother cared about what happens to the baby - even just a little. If they only thought of themselves (like one of the posts before this), no amount of baby hatches would help.

Before "legitimate" drug tests are done, the person who gives the specimen fills out a form that has questions regarding medication taken within the last month or so. I wonder if they bothered to ask?
This case seems to be just plain generalizing. They seem to want to say that Russian sumo wrestlers = drug users. If they want to check for drugs, either test everyone or test randomly.
