I cannot see how temporarily stopping trade will keep the price down or the rice futures stable. With a reduced / contaminated supply, the price WILL go up. These kinds of measures, if I remember my futures lessons correctly, are to prevent panic and excessive trading in the markets. Usually they are fueled by events which correct themselves, within a short time. This is an ongoing (and worsening) situation.
I look forward to a futures expert or someone "in the space" to comment. :-)

I think the moral of the story is don't screw up or overstay your visa. If you do, Japanese immigration will in some cases kill you, or best case really fork up you life.
Seriously, if I lived in Japan for 22 years, legally or illegally, I would not be deported without making a fuss. The man was 45, so came when he was around 23 years old...1/2 his life in Japan. It was his home.
Additionally, if this man was in the custody of Japanese Immigration, it is their responsibility to ensure he is (at least) alive upon his arrival to his home country, whether he was abused, socked, tied up, or not.

looks like this story is dead...as Mitsubishi has backed out. Still, they might continue behind door negotiations.

We have goki-chans running around our place... If I leave a piece of Styrofoam tray out on the counter by the sink, we can sometimes hear them gnawing on it. It is a really annoying sound, so can't miss it. The noise can even wake you from a dead sleep. Any goki-chan that chews the foam ends up swimming in the toilet, or worse.

I agree with @chewitup Pachinko parlors should be required to have lot attendants. In addition, they should be required to put up signs saying "DON'T LEAVE YOUR KID IN YOUR CAR!"
Unfortunately, it is not only pachinko idiots that kill their kids this way. :-(
Too bad there are not public service announcements like in other countries about the risks of distracted driving, kids not in seat belts, and kids left in cars.
Poor little girl!

Hopefully praise by a nutcase will make Japan look at itself and adopt policies that encourage more multiculturalism.

Easy to be a critic. Would like more information on what kinds of mistakes, from whom, to whom?

@Harry_Gatto - Yes, the railways make HUGE claims against the estate of a person who is killed by train, either accidental or by suicide. Claims are for delays, lost revenue, clean-up, and more. I hear it is tens of millions of yen at minimum, depending on train line, time, etc.
Very sad for an already grieving family to get the bill!

Steve...a great comment from you that doesn't go on to blame her parents and childhood!
JR will be amply compensated for this, as in all other suicides. They charge millions of yen for stoppages, extra work, etc... Bereaving families are not only stuck with a funeral, but a huge bill for the suicide.

Great! They will enforce the law for a few months, get some media attention, and then stop. Just as they did with children in seat-belts.
Sadly, nothing will change...

@Gwragged : You and steve@CPFC are one of the few parents that have time to be there 24/7 for their children. Lucky you. Sadly, the reality for most of us is to teach our children of the dangers of the world and hope they heed our words. I survived my pre-teens without my mother or father around until late at night. I didn't die, kill anyone, and I turned out a fine parent. And, yes, I was a risk taker..and have my scars to prove it! ...which is a great way prove to my boy that I know what I am talking about!
