In some respects the service is better and worse. I do miss waiters coming to see if everything is alright...instead of yelling "sumimasen" when you need something. But, you also miss a lot of the attitudes of the waitstaff in the USA.

Surprisingly, they look like many of the "men" I see everyday.

@ moonbeams2 - English is the future...the old are a burden and non-productive members of society.
Seriously, being a caretaker is a very demanding job, both mentally and physically. My sister-in-law does it and works long, hard hours, has few holidays, and the helpers they get from a Japanese outsourcing company are worthless, if they bother to show up for work. She has told me that any foreigner that can talk, listen, and has some strength can do the job with a little training as long as there is a Japanese person on hand (for situations that might escalate.) She says medication, and other items can easily be printed with English or romaji, no kanji required.

I do not think it is necessary for every prefecture to have tsunami waste. What would the purpose be?? To increase trucking jobs in delivering garbage?

Yeah...this guy needs to have a taste of his own eye medicine. Give him some drops of battery acid and feel what he inflicted on this poor child! The mother should get the same!!!
When I see my kids in pain, I wish I could take it away or take it in their place. I cannot imagine a mother who would inflict this on her own child!

Gonna mark my calendar! "MOVIE NIGHT!"
Seriously, I hope they provide ways in which the people in Tohoku & Fukushima can get the help they need for the long road back to normalcy.
I would also hope they call out the government and scold them for removing unemployment, lack of support, and ass-dragging / passing the blame on so many issues and things that need to be done.

The J-government puts a tax on alcohol and tobacco...I think they should also put a tax on unhealthy foods such as this and much of McD's menus....

How can these people be trusted to do anything in the interest of the stockholders or the company when they have already brought it to it's knees? They should be sh!t canned with no benefits nor retirement package, and an interim board put in place.
BTW, I wonder what kind of severance the company will give these guys for their many years of dedicated service.

I agree with all of the comments about running 24 hr... or at least extended hours. 2 trains an hour would be fine in the wee hours....it would save me 3000 yen plus every time I miss last train!

With the press focusing on the demise of the Euro and point out that the countries credit ratings are worsening, it sure does carry weight...the weight of uncertainty for businesses, investors, consumers, and anyone with ties to that country.
