I live in Shonan and some people still go out when the sea is flatter than a boating lake. Better waves in Chiba but it gets big just before and after a typhoon if we're lucky.

spudman, They are pretty much all wearing boots too but unless you have an insulating layer of blubber the likes of Konishki you wouldn't last more than 5 minutes in there without a suit.
