Actually I really do not think Western leaders are itching to get involved in Syria. They probably hate the accusations of inaction and pleas for help, but they truly do not know how to read the situation. Extreme reluctance to get invoved sounds better.

You are right again. Some people here slam Tepco just as they regularly do the 'Keystone' cops. I think Tepco have been pretty inept over this whole affair, but there is no point now in slagging them off, even though it is easy to do and feels good.
I feel grateful for the sacrifices that the workers there continue to make daily for the nation.
I would wish that everyone concerned wakes up from their lethargy and contibutes to forming a grand plan for the nation's safe energy future.
Step One. Build a huge sea wall to protect what is left of Fukushima Daiichi and Daini, and start today.

Quote: Will Hartley, head of the Terrorism & Insurgency Center at IHS Jane’s in London, said it’s “unclear why Iran would risk an attack on Israeli interests in India, when India has been broadly supportive of Iran during the recent nuclear sanctions debate, and is one of Iran’s most important trade partners.”
We know that Iran has been uneasy with India's influence in Afghanistan, which is why they bombed the embassy there in Kabul. We know that India does not like Pakistan. We know that any attack on Israelis in India will remind India of the Mumbai attack and probably lead India to blame Pakistan again. For this reason a successful attack on Israelis within India would point their finger at Pakistan and away from Iran. Win-win.

Is... to stay on topic.
(And actually I was almost the lone voice on JT over the years complaining about nuclear plants in Japan and nuclear power in general. I never trusted the cover-up over Kashiwazaki Kariwa in Fukui in 2007 and stated so loudly. Many times no-one would follow up on my comments. For heating I have one kerosene stove through the winter and I do not use air conditioning in the summer at home. In this sense I agree with you, SS. )
If you had read the posts above listing the actual number of accidents at Japan's nuclear plants, how come you can state at 8:22 "Three (accidents). No one died. Were they really that serious? I also remember some accidents here..."
Just go to Wiki and read up on KK above and that one plant has a list of accidents as long as your arm. Plants all over Japan have hundreds and hundreds of failed inspection reports.

Dale Berry. Drop it. He doesn't read others' posts and keeps repeating his own position, so there's little point.
Let's get back to the astounding discovery that scientists have made after studying 24,000 aftershocks, ie earthquakes might be a real risk to poor battered Fukushima NPP.

Regarding Japan's near spotless record, here is a J Wiki page showing the world's nuclear accidents and those of Japan, with a pyramid illustrating how the Levels are designated.
Japan has had one level 7, one level 4, seven level 3 or less, and seven other famous incidents.
http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%8E%9F%E7%99%BA%E4%BA%8B%E6%95%85#.E4.B8.BB.E3.81.AA.E5.8E.9F.E5.AD.90.E5.8A.9B.E4.BA.8B.E6.95.85.EF.BC.88.E8.BB.8D.E4.BA.8B.E4.BB.A5.E5.A4.96.EF.BC.89
Comparisons with oil gas and coal for dangers or deaths are meaningless. Nuclear power is infinitely more dangerous to the planet's gene pool.

Feels like a completely different country here in the West of Japan. No excitement, no Mt Fuji eruption, no constant earthquakes... stay safe people!

"Fukushima Plant stable"... er, nothing remains stable in an earthquake.
Anyway I hardly expect them to start listing every busted pipe whenever one of these large aftershocks strikes. They'll issue the same old 'no damage was reported' bulletin first, and then send the workers in to patch the place up again.

Yahoo reported the temperature of 276 and above and this evening said the temps went off the top of the scale.
Tepco has been measuring the 'resistance' of the hot gauge, but has no plans to check the resistance of the cold gauges, apparently. (Fukushima Diary) So, which is/are broken and which is/are working?
The translations at Fukushima Diary are not good enough to reflect what the original Japanese is saying. I can get much more meaning from the Japanese than from the strange, stilted and sometimes mistaken English. Better than nothing? Hmmm... No, not always.

I have read reports today of over 300 degrees and over 400 degrees. Apart from the broken gauge theory, I read in a Q&A with Tepco that there could be a lump of corium stuck to one wall which is not getting the direct trickle of water it was getting before.
Also, SetagayaObserver, I saw that the Governor of Shizuoka has suggested Hamaoka be dedicated to research into Thorium reaction in place of Uranium. Chugoku Denryoku (Chuden) replied that they know nothing about Thorium and anyway it would be the government's decision to make, not theirs. Interesting article here.
http://www.chunichi.co.jp/article/shizuoka/20120212/CK2012021202000005.html
Tepco continue to deny any detection of Xenon gas (which should be given off with re-criticality), which leads them to the conclusion the gauge itself is bust..

Kobe Gai, you may be right about PPD/PND, but "all the signs"?
One of the signs, or some of the signs I could agree with... but where do you find all the signs in that article?
Either way, I hate to think that mother's love is just a wave of hormones and something like the above incident is just the tide going out.

I guess they are constantly in two minds. They will be believing one scenario but preparing for the other just in case.
Let's hope they are not just believing the scenario that the thermocouple is malfuctioning because it is easier to deal with.
Let's hope that common sense prevails there and they have a Plan B.

So many variables it makes it hard to comment.
Weed comes in such random strengths, and it also depends on whether the smoker/driver has already experience of a) smoking and b) driving after smoking.
Having said that, I would never do today what I used to do at college in the US...

Further update. Attempts at cooling are still not working according to the J news. The article above has become true again!
Temps up to 78 or 79 now, and as zichi says above, when it tops 80 degrees (margin of error 20 degrees +/-) it also steps out of 'cold shutdown', since it may in fact be boiling (there at sea level).

Interestingly, massed crowds in peaceful Iran have been shouting "Death to America!" and "Death to Israel!" for how many years now?
And remind me how many times such crowds have shouted "Death to Iran!" in which countries exactly? None? Correct.
Now, who is hostile again?
