Well, if they have found 3,000 people to work night and day for 8 months in a potentially gene-changing environment, then this has to be one firm measure for congratulations. How many other countries could have done this without mass defections?

As the report is says, there is room for improvement. Perhaps the focus has indeed been too conservative, focusing on the round-about clean-up, but with less aggressive intrusion into the still very nasty areas.

Have Tepco learnt their lesson over the sea wall?

Granted the IAEA are there to make sure the whole world goes nuclear as smoothly and cleanly as possible, so they will naturally take a softly softly approach, but as summaries go, this report seems to be fairly objective.

The truth, though, is that the area is still a hugely intricate challenge and still massively polluted.

The ref did a good job trying to be absolutely fair in a potentially threatening atmosphere. It took courage. Respect.

570 Gal? Huh? Some stress, not.

Some of those figures above I quoted wrongly.

Please read article here, and related articles below that. Interesting reading, regardless of whether true or not.

Series of articles in Chosunilbo (English Edition) on line saying that there is an army of North Korean nuclear experts working at five sites in Iran. They slip in through China and Russia, avoiding the eyes of the international community. Iran has already paid North Korea 2 billion USD for enriched uranium. Nuclear physicists from Iran have visited North Korea every year since 2008, apparently. Sounds like it's a bit late...

    Hold it a sec.

When they reported fission had been happening in no 1 reactor at Fukushima in October, Xenon was being given off, but they definitely mentioned that the one thing you might expect, ie radioactive Iodine 131, had not been detected.

One reason given was that the low temperature reactions could mean that the Iodine was solidified.

Could Iodine have been given off and gone straight up and away over the Pacific, I wonder, to be picked up in Europe? I know the IAEA say it is not from Fukushima, but they gave no reason. How can they be so sure, unless they know something we don't...?

Watched this last night. Splendid stadium. The Japanese fans cheered their hearts out and there seemed to be a good atmosphere, despite the stadium sound system broadcasting all the interviews in Japanese or Italian.

One NK player was given a red card but I thought it was way too harsh as the two players came together legs to legs and someone's leg had to go higher than the other's.

NK goalkeepr defended brilliantly against so many J shots on goal.

Again this bombastic rhetoric. This is where both Ghadafi and Saddam went wrong.

The world wants to see a mature and responsible Iran that can tell the truth (whichever way it chooses to go), and can be trusted to do the right thing when everyone else is busy trying to keep the peace..

And what have we had so far?

Too many accidents happening already, and more waiting in the wings, and these numbers will rise exponentially as more and more reactors come on line.

Future generations will be unable to pay the price. My poor daughters and their children...

Strange, I was following this on PPrune and suddenly it got taken off... No sign of the article any more. Anyone a member over there? Is Boeing trying to bury this news, or am I just plain old-fashioned paranoid?

If Iran says they are not developing nukes, then fine.

If they are, then they are now in process of being proved liars, and it's all on record.

    Which is it?

    The world is watching.

This rhetoric from Iran is deliberately aggressive.

Like a school bully shouting insultingly and challengingly, "Hit me! Afraid to hit me then? You wouldn't dare!!!"

Great for domestic consumption, but very bad for stability in a hot area of the world.

Nothing peace-like about it at all, at all.
