No I hold a firm belief that the systematic rape and forced sexual slavery of anyone is deeply non-humanist behaviour. Attempting to justify these known actions of the Japanese government and military marks Hashimoto as a person not deserving of respect or my consideration. I certainly hope that Hashimoto is one day able to progress in his own humanity and understand why his stance is so appalling and both logically and emotionally indefensible.

I'd be willing to support Abe on this... just as soon as japan commits to arresting the (largely) mothers of abducted foreign children and immediately returning the children to the countries they were abducted on - otherwise, if I were a (say...) US politician, I'd consider any international political help in this matter to be tied to abduction issues in general.

I think japan needs to realise that being a glaring hypocrite on abduction won't encourage any sympathy towards Japan.

At the end of the day it is the US that needs to address their issue about guns in society for themselves. NZ actually has incredibly lax gun laws and we have a huge amount of guns out there(although pistols require enormous efforts to obtain: special licence, affordability, police vetting etc) yet our gun deaths are largely caused by the state (i.e Police shootings). As I understand it (I haven't checked) in Canada guns are fairly available as well and the deaths by guns So, it cannot be 'just guns' that has led to the huge amount of shootings in the US - doubtless there are many other factors as well.

if you check the wiki stats http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Listofcountriesbyfirearm-relateddeathrate you'll see that the US features at 10th

Also, with the number of guns in circulation - how will this now be curtailed? That is quite a thorny policy question. Whatever the solution is - it is an issue that the US must solve for themselves

I had permanent resident status in Japan some years ago.... but it turns out that "permanent" doesn't actually mean that. In most countries PR status entitles one to stop needing re-entry visas... not the case here in japan (far too logical.....).

When we return I don't know If I'll even both trying to get PR the taxes alone make it more of a cost than a benefit.

She acted against her strongest biological need to protect and perpetuate her genes. That act is clearly irrational - unless you accept "evil" as a possibility (but your writing is far too logical and lucid for that). I understand that mental disorders are not well dealt with in many countries, including Japan. Nevertheless, this is the heart of the issue isn't it - not horror of the action.

ahhhh cue the blood-thirsty, revenge-rabble so prevalent on these pages. The women was clearly mentally unhinged - better to ask why this wasn't spotted by her doctors, nurses and midwives who should still be intimately involved with her post-natal. A sad story for sure - as for the horrified indignation... the less said the better.

@jessebayboy, No - that is not correct. Making music by it's very definition is a creative process. Which is what the question asked. You have confused "creativity" with "things that I like". A common enough mistake. Most people listen to music or maybe play a little guitar or something like that. Yet, they invest huge amounts of emotional capital into the artform. Only a handful of us study Music, work as musicians and/or teachers of the subject.

I constantly remind my music students that just as when I teach them Mathematics there is a wealth of knowledge about Music which requires study and practice outside of personal taste and listening experience (massively important aspects, but only a fraction of the Artform).

There is more music being created now than at any other point in history - the 2000s (whether you like the music or not) is technically the correct answer.

wow! 25% of you don't believe that the world is getting warmer....? The issue isn't that there is climate change - it is the extent of man's impact on that change. That, like any scientific model, is subject to refinement, testing and falsification. Simple 'facts' like: "average warming over a period of time"( once established through peer review) are only denied by the lunatic fringe (religious types, creationists, fundamentalist... assorted crazies).

This case is a great and wonderful victory for parents fighting the obscene family courts of Japan. So sad that this would never had occurred had the myopic and racist Japanese courts/government been left to find justice by themselves.
