  The soroban, once a staple of childhood education along with reading and writing, is making a comeback with more children attending soroban schools and more people taking abacus certification tests.

  Not because it has any real life use but because they actually believe it is a Japanese invention.

  Actually now that I think about it, they should have used that money to bribe some of the teams that are going to beat them badly in the world cup. It would have been money well spent because they will continue to hunt whales until the USA tells them not to.

  That may be true for some teachers, but only a few. Most are professional, educated and enthusiastic teachers.

  I don't know where you live, but it's obviously not Japan. I've been in Japan for 3 years. I'm not an English teacher, but every non Japanese I know is either a "DJ" or 'English Teacher". None of them went to university and all of them lied about their degree.
