In western countries, yes. In Japan, no. Women will date any western man here. Even though it's obvious to the rest of us that he has never actually had a girlfriend in his life. A hint that he has never had a girlfriend would be an example such as my fellow teacher at my school. When I come to work and say good morning, he just giggles like a schoolgirl and looks the other way.
