What a ludicrous statement. What about his vigorous support of Yuyu Idubor, the Nigerian convicted of rape under extremely dubious circumstances? That comment alone tends to invalidate your opinions on Debito.
Oh geez. Is this where Debito boldly stated that he was convicted where there was no physical evidence when…
I do disagree that illegals are creating a high social cost to Japan. Sure, a few maybe, but the vast majority are contributing to society, paying their taxes (since it is withdrawn at source), etc. None are on the dole. I know that this does not justify their remaining here…
And the reason that the cop gave to him for the ID-Check was a very valid and is COMMON procedure in ANY country prior to a major event like the G8 Summit.
Agreed Zen. This is what gets lost in the discussion and it's despicable for Debito to use these…
The problem is that these places attract lots of school trips and students as we know are dumb. Of course only Japanese students are dumb enough to write their own and their school's full names
Nah. I've seen a lot of graffitti with the names of Universities along with fraternity…
This guy does a lot of good work for human rights in Japan. He has my support. Debito is right to question why only foreign residents are questioned ahead of the summit - and why not?
You mean foreign visitors, right?
Did you happen to see all those anti-globalization nuts…
Waiwai always made it clear that its source material was the lower types of unsubstantiated scandal rags etc., so I don't think too many non-Japanese will have based their whole view of Japan on it.
frontandcentre:
Have they? I mean people who are long time residents of Japan are somewhat…
And I would go further and say that Mainichi brass openly encouraged the WaiWai writers to spice it up to get more access hits knowing that most Japanese don't pay attention to English sites. And when $hit hit the fan, they needed the fall guy.

Well, if Debito had his way, Japan will be a safe haven for illegal immigrants (overstayers) because the police can't ask for ID's.
And yes. Not ALL foreigners are illegal aliens. Not ALL foreigner looking person is non-Japanese. We get it Dave.
But did you bother to check how many…
