A: A war memorial dedicated only to "ordinary" soldiers.

    Very ambiguous indeed.

The only difference between those buried at Arlington and those enshrined at Yasukuni are that U.S. never had to go through the International Military Tribunal like the ones staged pursuant to London Charters. To say that none of the soldiers buried there are free from crime only goes to show how some people are really clueless on what transpired during these proceedings as well as the war crimes committed in subsequent conflicts.

    And another thing.

Since the issuance of Joint Communique up to August of 1985, there have been 32 Yasukuni vists by PM's.

1959 Japan didn't have diplomatic relations with their neighbors bc of a small little thing called WWII and Korean War. LOL. Ridiculous bizaro reasoning continues...

???? You mean to tell me that 1965 Treaty with Korea and 1972 Joint Communique "just happened" out of thin air without any diplomatic correspondences before??

I did a bit of research and found that it wasn't until decades after the war, in January 1969, the Japanese government and representatives from the shrine established that the 14 Class A war criminals (including Tojo) and more than 1,000 other prisoners convicted of war crimes after the war, would be eligible for inclusion in a registry of persons considered 'on duty' during the war. This listing is a necessary requirement for diefication in the Yasukuni Shrine. In October of 1978, those convicted of Class A war crimes were enshrined. The Japanese government and leaders from the shrine did something very provocative and completely unnecessary; basically sticking their fingers in the eyes of their Asian neighbors and every country they went to war with 30 years earlier.

Good for you except for the fact that 1,000 other convicted war criminals were enshrined in 1959 and nobody including China and Korea who are most vocal never questioned the enshrinement nor opposed PM visiting the shrine for over three decades. Secondly, the inclusion of the 1,000 or so war criminals to the "war dead" was done because of public petition during the late 50's. For such "very provocative" actions, one wonders why there were no protests or outrage from these so-called "Asian neighbors" during that time.

Sorry for the late reply. I'm surprised because many stories do not have follow-ups in terms of sentencing. It was not a serious criticism, really... just a rather thin-tipped pen's exclamation point on that point. I wouldn't say this is all that extremely high-profile.

Smith. Maybe you're not getting the formula. There is a reason why the court decision was all over the media. Because it was a high profile case.

Actually, it's spoken like a person who wouldn't lose them like this woman did. And I have nieces and nephews and have taken them here and there -- it is indeed a pain in the butt to get where we are going, and I've had to leave quite a bit earlier than I'd like, but you know what? they're all still alive.

Again, spoken like a person who never had a child. We're not talking about walking couple blocks to take the kids to the park or grocery shopping. This is about taking your kids several kilometers back and forth every week day and in this case, picking up your kids at a daycare.

You're in no position to compare your "experience" to that of the mother indicated on this article nor you are qualified to have a higher moral ground simply because you haven't had an accident during the rare times you took your nieces and nephews out for a stroll.

    Cricky.

It's a global recession that affects the developed nations first and will no doubt trickle down to the emerging markets as well. Coupled with the fact that Japan increased imports of LNG, they are experiencing a trade deficit. Complete overhaul ofnthe economic overhaul?? Take a chill pill pal and enjoy some Barry Manilow.

you might want to check the trade balance with Japan for those countries.

    The Munya Times

That's what Japan does. They sell (export) parts and components to China for assembly. Read JETRO.

His meds would have been in his Body fluids

Only if the physician or lab were looking for specific drug which based on the sheet you gave, is highly doubtful.

A complete physical and neurological exam of muscle strength, reflexes, eyesight, hearing, and ability to detect various sensations are tested so your doctors can better understand the cause of your seizures.

The sheet doesn't look like a complete physical to me nor do I find the sheet with a mandatory EEG and or MRI screening which is very costly.

As I stated before, many of the screenings rely on the applicant to be truthful about their medical conditions, hence a possibility of a few slipping by so to speak. Secondly, most nations including Japan allows you to work under these conditions if they are "controlled" through medication. The problem with this is that you are relying on these workers to take medications as prescribed.

It's not a questionnaire. Vision, hearing, reflex, body fluids, throat, thorax etc. gets checked and if the Patient Passes the Exam he gets a Medical Examiners certificate

We're talking epilepsy. One cannot determine is he/she has epilepsy based on those simple tests. How does a physician determine if he/she had seizures, fits, convulsions or fainting based on those tests you provided?

    Utrack.

Senseiman was referring to a specific test(s) and not some Physician form which is based mostly on patients' self declaration questionnaire.

Nope. But i would take them on foot, not by bike.

Spoken like a person who never had a child. Smith. I would seriously suggest taking a 2 and 4 year old for a walk and see how far you can go.

Good post Dutchduck. It's really pathetic that one has to compare a few negligent parents who were unfortunate in order to make themselves "above" the entire Japanese population.

    Oh my god... a follow-up!

Why are you surprised, smith? Not every follow-up to high profile cases gets reported by JT. Or perhaps you are criticizing JT which in that case, my bad.

Can't fault the prosecutors or the judge in this case for this is a maximum sentence under the current law.

Hence, the issue now turns to, should physicians mandatory report to the police of individuals who are diagnosed with epilepsy? While this may appear to be a solution, there is a likelihood of individuals with epilepsy who will choose not to seek treatment simply because they might have their license taken away and more so for those indiviuals whose job requires driving.

What's interesting to note that prior to 2002, people suffering from epilepsy could not get a license of any kind but the law was revised for the purpose of eliminating "discrimmination" for those who were suffering.

And of course this story gets pushed by the media outlets and the earlier comments by Clinton about Japanese abduction of US children will once again get swept under the carpet.

Perhaps it has something to do with the the same reason that the U.S Media outlets don't report the NK abduction (i.e. swept under the carpet)

Virtuoso, the figures are at least double those reported in fact. Japan tries to look good by having a law that says to have died in a traffic accident, a doctor has to have signed the death certificate within 24 hours of the accident taking place. If you look at the sudden dip in road in road deaths in the mid 1970's when this idiotic law was passed, you'll know what I am referring to. Anyone who dies of their injuries a day after the accident did not officially die in the accident. They died of natural causes and voila, the roads of Japan are therefore "safety".

Incorrect as usual. The NPA publishes two figures which is death within 24 hours and death within 30 days and the numbers indicate they are NOT "at least double".

    Patrick,

Half a million Koreans abducted??? How exactly was Japan able to accomplish that??? Were these people abducted at gunpoint? I sure like to know because this is news to me.

As cricky correctly points out, restraining orders need to be put in place quicker, if the stalker doesnt abid, haul them in, far to many are killed or attacked in this country, even when warning bells are loud as hell!

    ????

As if issuing restraining order to this daughter living in CHIBA would of prevented him from killing the mother and the grandmother living in NAGASAKI??????
