Japan is the same. Most of the "from concentrate" juice in Japan is from imported concentrate. OJ from Brazil, GF from US, apple from China. Chicken products from thailand and china. The list goes on.

I've saide it before, but the $111 million investment is not just for his baseball skills. He is a star in Japan and that means big time licensing fees, advertising contracts, and broadcast fees for Texas. There will be Japanese companies advertising all over the stadium as all the games will be broadcast in Japan with highlights on all the news stations. I don't know how much Texas will make from all these deals, but I'm sure it is a pretty good investment for them. And the kid seems pretty good on the mound.

I was not a Tebow fan when he was at Florida. But this is an amazing story and run. First time I cheered for the Broncos.

Darvishi seems to be an excellent pitcher and I'm sure he'll put up some decent numbers in the majors. But it's not just the numbers on the field, it's the numbers he brings to the bottom line. The Rangers will make millions from licensing, broadcasts, ticket sales, etc. The Japanese will televise every game he pitches and pay a lot of money for it. That brings advertising dollars also. He's a great player, but he will also bring a lot of income to the Rangers that other players don't.

Too many men in their 50's with elementary aged kids in this country. I go to my kid's school events and I'm not sure if I'm talking with the parents or the grandparents of their classmates.

The guy is not arrogant. He wants to play for Seattle or will return to Japan. He is a free agent. Free agents can choose where they want to go as long as their is a suitor. A minor league contract is not a bad thing either as US baseball pays a lot better than Japan baseball. If he makes to the majors then good for him. I personally don't watch Japanese baseball and have no idea who this guy is, but if he is a free agent he can test the waters.

Because those are holidays. The same reason Americans take their holidays on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the 4th of July. The same reason Chinese take holidays at Chinese New Year. Yes it's no fun to travel then, but is it really any different than other cultures?
