Prostitution is very common in Japan, in all its various guises (snack bars, hostess bars, lounges, soaplands, delivery health). You can often see young girls doing 'enjyoukousai' (compensated dating) even in my small city. The thing is, it's all 'cutesy' here and made to sound like harmless fun. Just browse through any hostess club magazine or delivery health magazine. The pages are full of little cartoons depicting what to do and how to pay etc..... The really scary thing is the total lack of awareness about STDs and safe sex.

It is very hard to get a gun licence here. And hard to get a hunting licence. It is all theory based. Typical Japanese way. No focus on practicality at all.

My hunting club gives me a free blaze orange vest every year. Not sure if it is actually illegal not to wear it though.

Hunting season in Japan is basically from November to March. These guys, if hunting legally, must have been hunting under a special licence issued only for 'pest extermination'. This is very hard to get! I know only a couple of hunters with such a licence in my prefecture. Sounds a bit fishy to me....boar hunting in June.....

As a hunter in Japan I am often invited to join guys on group hunts, usually for boar. I always decline the offers because these kinds of accidental shootings are all too common. I much prefer to go by myself. That way, the only person I have to worry about is me! Some of the things I see other hunters do is quite frankly shocking....basic gun safety, not to mention the law, is often neglected.

Compared to Broken Britain, Japan is like heaven. Here, I can go out for a drink and not have to worry about some chavs starting a fight for no reason other than sick entertainment. Come to that, there is basically no chav culture here, thank goodness. But yeah, driving here is terrible. Just the other day I saw a SCHOOL BUS with the driver letting a little girl stand in the aisle and talk to him while the bus was moving!

Japanese porn is indeed great. However, I can't help but feel a little guilty watching it sometimes when I remember that pretty much the only way for girls in Japan to make good money is to work for a snack bar/hostess club/AV company; i.e. sell themselves in a sexual way. And yeah, I agree with the above poster. Japanese porn stars are indeed way more gorgeous and 'girl next door-like' than American porn stars.

Nice face, but what a horribly bony body! Wouldn't want to hug that.

I think the Japanese health insurance is wonderful. Most people here would rather just keep the money they should be paying in for drinking probably.

As a gun owner in Japan, I can tell you one thing; the father will be in big trouble! My guns can be checked at any time, unannounced. If the police find them out of the locker, or even if they are in the locker but the locker is unlocked or damaged in some way, I would lose the guns and the licence. The rules are very strict here, even down to how many screws have to affix the locker to a wall.

It's because the reason Haiti is in such a poor state anyway is down to one country...the USA. After strangling Haiti with sanctions and sponsored coups, it's a bit rich that they are now taking the glory as the benevolent, kind peacekeepers!

The original Japanese story according to Asahi is kinda different from this translation:

    http://www.asahi.com/national/update/1124/SEB200911240005.html

There is nothing about someone seeing him jump. Rather, they found blood stains leading from the entrance to the ninth floor...

This is very sad, but unfortunately I fear this poor girl won't be the last. The proliferation of snack bars/hostess clubs in this country means scores of women will continue to be viewed as second-class citizens whose role is to relieve older guys' sexual tensions/pervert fantasies. The system is set up for young, attractive girls to fall into this line of work. How else do girls of 18/19 afford designer handbags and expensive clothes? Certainly not through any regular job. Also, if a young girl wants to put herself through years of university, how else can she earn enough money without having to work every waking hour, and thereby ruining her chances of graduating with a good grade? The system is rotten. And it will never change, because 90% of Japanese lawmakers are.....surprise, surprise, old men!

99% of public restrooms in Japan don't even have soap! What's the point of gargling (with water!) or wearing those stupid masks when everything you touch is infested with who knows what?!
