Your sarcasm reveals a cartoonish view of Scandinavian history. The Icelandic Althing is the oldest parliamentary institution in the world still extant, founded in 930.

The Wikileaks number is recorded violent deaths. The Lancet number is estimated violent deaths. Big difference.

Perhaps the legislation is not up-to-date. I've read stories about people developing severe mental problems after sex/nude videos of them were leaked on internet. They know it will stay there forever, and get paranoid someone will recognize them. And now, for the first time, I read about an actual suicide. Punishing such leaking is a sure way to reduce the problem.

And it looked so fun in American Pie.
Seriously, kids need to be tough that these kinds of camera games could potentially be one of the worst crimes. It seems so innocent, but as we see, the consequences can be much the same as for rape: fear (of being recognized on internet), chronic depression, and, as in this case, suicide.

KeikoTokyo,
I don't think anyone calls Japan's whaling indigenous hunting. But killing whales with modern harpoons, transporting the meat with planes across Greenland and putting it on supermarket shelves; perhaps you could explain how that qualify as indigenous hunting?

bamboohat,
3 out of 7 (4 out of 8) of these countries hunt whales. So not sure what you are referring to.

And where is the discrimination? That they can't use hangul? I saw an British documentary about Japan, where they aimed to disclose discrimination in Japanese society. They interviewed a zainichi, who used the unexisting name change requirement as her primary reason for not taking Japanese citizenship. The lie went unchecked.

Dilbert14, your views on dolphins and their behaviour are fascinating. But since Mod deletes all our posts that are not explicitly about Taiji or The Cove, I'm afraid we're not able to discuss this issue further. Sad, I would love to know more about your views.
Moderator: We ask all readers to please stay on topic.

Dilbert14,
From the wikipedia article on killer whales (the largest species of the dolphin family): "Although, unlike transient killer whales, resident killer whales have never been observed to eat other marine mammals, they are known to occasionally harass and kill porpoises and seals for no apparent reason."
Since the dolphins are so intelligent, do moral standards apply to them? And if so, is the described behavior morally deplorable?

Dilbert14,
So if I understand you correctly, you believe that some species are worthy of our respect and should not be killed, while others are not worthy and can be killed for food. Right? Please tell me, how do you know which species belong to which category?

Have to disagree on that one. You have to make a grunt (AKA aizuchi) between each sentence your conversation partner utters. However, anyone who has ever lived with a woman should have already developed an aizuchi autopilot.

Rule 1: Avoid the moving season (March-April)
Rule 2: Negotiate.
Rule 3: Have a Japanese seishain spouse.
Just moved to a 2K the other day. It's really tenant's market out there now. Negotiated away the key money. Didn't pay rent from we took it until we moved in (1 month). Only 1 month deposit. We could pick and choose between apartments, and they all seemed desperate to find a tenant. Same with the moving company, we had 3 men working for us for 6 hours for less than 40000 yen, they initially asked for more than 80000. The contract is very clear on what the deposit covers, and it is damage, not wear and tear. The problem is that the landlord is in possesion of the money. I've heard that the courts normally side with the tenant, the burden of proof is on the landlord. However, realisticly we won't go to court over one month rent (Is there a small claims court system here?). But threats are anyway free :)
