Northlondon, Yes, some Japanese judo is beautiful, however did you see the Mongolian win the gold in the world championships? 1 huge iipon seioi nage. I believe the N.K. guy threw this guy with Uchimata. (didn't see it, asked a friend.) Both wins full iipon. In several matches here last year my Japanese opponents seemed to stall alot. The western players seemed to try harder. It might be that they didn't want to lose to a foreigner and wanted the tie. I do agree that wrestling has its influences in America and some European countries, and watching it is super boring! but most of these countries still don't win medals consistently. I should have clarified which counties I was writing about. And I want to see Japanese players go overseas to learn. i.e. Inoe Kosei is in France right now. Can't wait for him to return to Japan and take his rightful place at the Japanese national coach. Japan will once again rock. But that is a few years away I fear.

northlondon, funnier than the first. Played is in 10 All Japan tournaments, Five International Tournaments, and hundreds of others. Hold a rank of 5th dan and believe that the sport internationally is where Mr. Kano wanted it to go. I am a guest instructor at three universities and teach several beginner classes around Tokyo and Kanagawa. The rules favor no one. If you reverse your point, it could be said then that the older rules favor Japanese players, which I also disagree. For a sport, that seems a bit one sided. Let's look at the strong teams now. Mongolia, Korea, France, Germany. (what do they all have in common? bmi?) no. Just they play harder and plan better and learn. They all have been to Japan leaning from the Japanese and then go home and make things better. Japanese need to travel more. Need to learn more. Judo is not a martial art. It is a sport.

Lowly, that's BS. The rules are the same all over the world and the minor changes that have been put in place are for pure safety concerns. Even the Kodokan has introduced International Judo Federation rules this year. The judo uniforms are mostly made in Japan and for years Judo has been developing Japanese skills have increased over the years, as have non-Japanese. The point is that Judo is a sport and is always developing. From the start Mr. Kano wanted Judo to be a sport. He wanted it a sport based on increasing perfection through usage. And now the non-Japanese countries are taking Mr. Kano's teaching methods and improving techniques and developing new skills. Unless Japanese old stubborn instructors don't learn to catch up, then Japan will fall even more behind the rest of the world. Japan gave the world the gift of Judo. Now the world is giving Judo improved techniques.

Unless Japan starts going overseas to practice judo and learn some new training methods, they will continue to loose. Not one winner in the World Championships this year. Fist time ever. Good job NK. Your training is paying off.

gogogo, you have got to be kidding me. Almost 2010 and someone might not have a credit card? My nephew in Singapore has his own credit card and he is only 15. Only in Japan would someone not have a credit card....(As many Japanese credit card companies reject foreigners based solely on that they are foreigners.) As for cards and usage. Using a card, instead of pulling out 5 USD for a can of coke makes it less painful. Marketing has proven it is easier to over-charge someone when no physical money is exchanged.

Japanese United is the same. Advertising a "All Inclusive Fair" and when I inquired on what days I could go, Anytime in January, February, or March, they replied, check it yourself. We don't help. Almost every restaurant in Japan says one thing then give you another. Seen stickers on things that say one price but when you go to the register a higher one comes up. When they see the sign, they say, o it was a mistake. You have to pay the higher one. Japan has no sense of customer service any more. This guy who went to the restruant to get something he saw them prepare, is completely justified in getting upset. good for him. Japan needs more of them.

American's will see "best effort" and blast their technical service department. When absolutely none of the upper management can speak comprehend-able English, they expect to make it in America. Dream on. Can't even make it in Japan.

As for iyaratmosphere comments about Buddhist beliefs, Japanese are not religious at all. They say they are Buddhist, however when asked even a few popular teachings of Buddha, nothing can be repeated. It is like being Christian or Jewish and not knowing even 1 commandment. What a joke of a comment. Japanese are simply too concerned with themselves. ie my comment: They are just selfish.
That said, so many fly to the US to take American Donor Organs, a practice I do not support. Americans are waiting in line. Protect Americans first.

Found out that even if the Donor states it clearly that they want to donate, family can overrule the departed. Selfish.

Second post sorry: The only people over the years that actually liked Japan after they visited were my friends from Singapore and Taiwan. But they even complained on points 1, 5, and 6.
Not a very good score card.

Had family visit 4 years ago. Of which they vowed not to return. They couldn't stand: 1. cost of taxi service 2. Walking up endless stairs ever where 3. MSG in everything 4. Stares of anyone walking down the street 5. Not being able to get out of smoking sections *even non-smoking sections smell like smoke 6. After a 14 hour flight another 2 hours to get to my area "Yokohama"
The only two things they like were: 1. The Hatto Bus Tour and 2. Me.
Enough said.

People don't buy the paper any more for news. They buy it for things they can't find online. Like Coupons, Ads from the area stores, and well.... can't think of a 3rd thing. (local who cares news .... knew I could think of 1 more.)

As Christmas draws closer and more people flock to Omotesando to look at the lights, let's close the street to allow people to enjoy them in comfort. Solves everyone's problems. Good for business.... *o not really seeing most of those stores close at 7pm 9 at the latest.

Just looked up the prices. Crazy! With a 50% coupon you can buy at any discount shop for airfare, paying 50.000 plus per person for a one night stay is insane. For those prices you can go to Hawaii in February. 30,000 max would be acceptable 15,000 yen for flights and 15,000 yen for hotel but what they are charging are criminal. Foreigners aren't stupid, are we?

Glad to see that his Father wasn't getting his ugly face in the photo. This father has pushed these two boys so hard for so long. I feel really sorry for them. They only know how to fight. When that is finished, what will they do? o yea... Japanese TV.
