What is the official retirement age for drifting? I would think that a 36 year old man would have toddlers at home and would be concerned that is recklessness could cause injury or death to himself and others. Also, how can these drifters consider this as a "show our skills"…

Concur with most here, 12 years is a bit odd for this heinous crime. But I do disagree with others that this is a Japan culture issue. Don't limit yourself to believe that this is systemic to Japan. It happens in other parts of the world as well.

I'm at a loss on this one. Two U.S. sailors get life for their crimes recently and this version of Robert Dinero "Taxi Driver" gets 13 years offering neither apology nor remorse. What am I missing here?

Concur with LFRAgain, I would imagine if the same happen to me, no one in my hood would be concerned about my whereabouts other than the landlord angry because the rent is overdue.
