No, public space means public space. There shouldn't be anti-smoking laws against smoking in the open…

Disillusioned, we get your (Japanese-stereotyping) point. But none of us know the full story yet, so you seem to be jumping to conclusions buddy. How do you know that the woman wasn't disabled in some way, making the short crossing take much longer ? How do you know that she didn't take a heavy fall on her way across ? The point is pal, that railway crossing gates in very busy metropolitan cities such as Tokyo should have enough safety space between the gate and the trains. And if her friend had to crouch between the gate and the train as the report states, then this tells me that these were no single 'bamboo pole' gates, but rather the type that were fully covered from top to floor. Thus making this tight crossing potentially lethal.

So under the same way of thinking you can't just say that Hong Kong is an area under Chinese jurisdiction based on China's claim ?

windhoss, the islands are occupied by Japan and are called the SENKAKU islands. SENKAKU, not diaoyu.

The responsibility for this death totally lies on the shoulders of the Keio line. Not enough space between the gate and the track ? That means that these gates are unsafe for elderly people or young children. There should be enough safe space between the wrong side of the gate and the train and these gates are clearly right up against the trains.
Like I just said, these gates are not safe.
Only 15 minutes to investigate the accident before clearing the poor womans body away ? They were more bothered about their stupid train timetable than this poor womans safety.

Cos,
I have been defending Japan's ownership of the islands and blasting the Chinese over-reaction all week. But the recent news about the Japanese holding the fisherman for even longer and not charging him with any crime means that the Japanese deserve criticism as well for dragging their heels over a very nervy issue and for making the situation worse.
Japan, by inviting Chinese diplomats to observe the process, would have come across with more maturity and respect and diffused the situation.

The Japanese, although correct in arresting a trawler captain for hitting 2 coast guard boats, need to do themselves a diplomatic favour and deport the fisherman now. Holding the guy for a further 10 days without charging and deporting him is pretty stubborn.
How the Chinese can sever diplomatic ties over a (possibly rogue) fisherman, is just ridiculous.
In a normal world, a Chinese diplomat should have been invited to observe the due process of the Japanese police interviewing and charging the trawler captain. The diplomat could then have taken the fisherman home once he was deported.

You neglected to state the 'subject to taxes etc'. I haven't found a Y55,000 fare on their site yet, so I guess travel will need to be made on 30th November or something like that.

northlondon's professional dating advice:-
i) At the start of the date place 4,000 yen on the table and state very clearly that that is the budget for the evening (for both people). If you don't have 4,000 yen borrow it from a mate.
ii) Only date loose, tarty-looking girls.
iii) Only date girls under the age of 20.
iv) Only date Japanese girls (apologies to all the western ladies here but I suffer from a bad back and heavy weights are a problem).
v) Only date Japanese girls who can speak English.
vi) Make it very clear that you expect a bit of action on the 2nd date before confirming the 2nd date.
vii) Go home to the wife.

Where do I start with this post ? If you are American (by your username), then you should be aware that it was the U.S who handed the islands to Japan (before the Chinese and Taiwanese found out there was oil and good fishing there). Japan is disliked globally and it needs to change ? Why ? Just because they happen to own some islands that the Chinese and Taiwanese want for oil and fishing !! Be serious man.

Didn't understand the judges verdict after the extra period. Nakamura was stronger and attacked more. Nishida was very tired and defending. Didn't understand it.

The Portugese girl was fine. She was just mentally knocked out by losing to an Ippon throw with only seconds left after defending for the whole bout.
