Melissa Jacobs and the Mail On Sunday are absolute traitors setting Triesman up and trying to sink England's bid. The Russians, Spanish and Portugese, predictably, were straight on to FIFA.

The airline’s chief executive, Willie Walsh, is to meet with British Transport Secretary Philip Hammond on Monday.

To do what exactly ? Stop the volcano from erupting ? Typical British establishment senior management/ political reaction. Walsh will exert pressure on the government to relax safety regulations.

I don't see what this guy has done wrong. It was entrapment, which used to be illegal in the UK but our laws now seem to copy the US which allows potential criminal acts/ taped conversations to be set-up by the police/ undercover journalists in advance (entrapment). He did the very honourable thing by resigning. The snake who set Triesman up was a trusted friend who planned the whole conversation in advance with the Mail On Sunday newspaper. I would not be surprised at all if this sting was financed by the Russian or Spanish bidding team.

Trains come regularly so are never so full, very rarely stop for lengthy periods between stations, people are considerate and polite and do not smell too bad, stations are clean and modern, very few thieves and almost no mad people

I must have been living on another planet. Trains come regularly in London ! Rarely stop for delays ! Stations are clean in comparison to Tokyo !! You've obviously never been to London in your life.

The only thing you are correct about is the thieves compared to London but Tokyo commuters being polite and considerate ? Rubbish. In London people know how to keep their distance and not to push others - it's too dangerous. I've had more bust-ups on the trains in Tokyo than I had in a lifetime in London.

Actually the 3 bottom pictures typify the idiots that we have to put up with here in Tokyo. In London people get pushed back off the train for trying to squeeze in when it is already full. Seen it happen.

Britain welcomes 1st coalition government since World War II

I don't think anyone has 'welcomed' it. We didn't have any say in the matter.

“Until today, we have been rivals. Now we are colleagues,” said Clegg

    Comical.

Cameron acknowledged he had once told an interviewer the best joke he had ever heard was “Nick Clegg.”

And now they want to form a coalition government !

The Labour party has failed so comprehensively that this coalition was the only workable outcome, in my view.

For Labour to have remained in power with the support of various tiny minority nationalists (who themselves lost support in the election) would have been completely unjust.

There are some tough spending decisions to be made, but at least a new government can make them, rather than carrying on with the profligate tax-and-waste policies of Gordon Brown and his failed vote-buyers.

Goodbye Gordon, Mandelson, Balls, Miliband 1, Miliband 2, Harriet Harperson and Alistair Campbell, you have done your best to try and wreck Britain, now leave others to try and sort out the mess you have made.

Like I already said, A lot of very personal party political broadcasts on here. Instead of running the country in a mature and business-like manner we just have schoolyard name-calling.

The electoral reform argument should be more to do with other non-governing political party MP's who won Election seats, getting a say in a shared government. It is not so simple just to redraw the political map (the UK consituency map). The constituency map is there for a very historical reason. If we want a total UK vote then we would have to do away with local constituencies and run the country centrally. Ask people in Scotland or Manchester or Wales how they would feel about that.

cleo, I understand your 'total UK' arithmetic. But it still works out with the Lib-Dems only coming in 3rd, electoral reform or not.

A lot of very personal party political broadcasts on here. The real reason why my country is in political stalemate and economic uncertainty is because of our dated party system, which is not very democratic at all and has resulted in only two contenders who just slag the other side off all the time. Instead of running the country in a mature and business-like manner we just have schoolyard name-calling.

The Labour party has failed so comprehensively that this coalition was the only workable outcome, in my view.

Wrong. The coalition was the only workable outcome because the Conservatives could not gain enough of an Election majority to rule government. Nothing to do with Labour. Despite Gordon Brown being one of the most unpopular Prime Ministers in history, the Conservatives support was so poor that it could not gain a majority.

We now have a government made up with the party who only came in 3rd with only 50 seats nationwide.

The only reason the Conservatives didn't win by a landslide is that Labour has done its upmost to create a society dependent on handouts from the government.

Nope. The only reason the Conservatives didn't win by a landslide is because the voting electorate didn't vote by a majority landslide.

Unfortunately the Okinawans have been totally shat upon by Japanese governments and, in a much smaller way, by the American military, since 1945. In fact, thanks to this history the population of Okinawa do not call themselves Japanese, but Okinawan. But geographically and strategically they have always been in that bad position of the south-western most point of Japan defensively.

It would be a good place to go and cheer on the Socceroos with a group of 40 or 50 Aussies in green and gold!

40 or 50 Aussies ? Only about 10 people from Australia know what football is.

My argument is with the Ward Office and the Metropolitan Government. Nike can do whatever they hell they like to make even bigger profits. The park is in a state in one of the richest cities in the world (Mr Ishihara). And Mr Ishihara's local government then sell their public space off for a corporate deal instead of using their billions to tidy it up for the local people.

By the way, the US$5 million quote is PR hype from the Nike machine trying to justify the deal. It's a lie.

@northlondon's comments actually the cost of constructing the park will cost several million US dollars to construct,

No way. We are talking about a small strip of land that needs concreting over for the skate park and climbing walls erected. That would cost Shibuya-ku nowhere near several million US Dollars.

Maybe ask Shibuya-ku how much it costs them to over-employ the huge number of staff they have at the Ward Office, or how much the Tokyo Metropolitan government have spent on the underground highway construction underneath Yamate-Dori for the last 6 years before we discuss the tidying-up of a little public space in Shibuya being sold off to Nike for their branding.

the simple fact is that Shibuya ku do not have the moeny to spend on this, so have looked for corporate sponsorship to cover the costs.

Are you serious ? Do you have any idea how much income Shibuya-ku receive in tax revenues, rental for property leasing etc ? Shibuya-ku is one of the richest wards in Japan.

My question is simple. What is going to happen to the Y17 million a year that Shibuya-ku will receive for a public space ?

FYI - Adidas sponsor a futsal park in Shibuya already, ontop of the Tokyu Dept store. Is this any different?

Totally different. Tokyu Department Store is a private enterprise and a privately owned building. Tokyu can do whatever they like on top of their building. The argument here is about a state-owned public space and local government being 'paid-off' by Nike.

A simple question. Why can't Shibuya-ku local government or the Tokyo metropolitan government turn the park into a skate park/ climbing wall area without the need for Nike branding ? At a pretty low cost for concreting, Shibuya-ku could then earn the income from the wall climbers and skaters. There would even be a small opportunity for employment. The argument here is not that Nike wish to turn the park into some kind of marketing wet dream for teenagers, but that local government will take Y17 million a year to turn a public area into Nike's park.

Worrying to see that British Airways' chief executive Mr Walsh would rather compromise passenger safety than lose money through such a natural disaster. He has been moaning in the press that NATS/ the British government should not have set the ban on air travel. However, Mr Walsh should recall that it was in fact a British Airways 747 that was minutes away from ditching in the sea when it hit volcanic ash above Indonesia in 1982. All four engines shut off and they glided for a full 15 minutes. Even when they managed to restart the engines they shut off once more. The pilots had to rely solely on their instruments as the windscreen had been sandblasted. Even when Indonesian airspace was reopened a few days later, a Singapore Airlines plane experienced similar problems. Maybe British Airways management would rather risk a crash than lose money from their business.

Most people would say the woman he killed was the biggest victim.

His wife had chances to get away and get him arrested earlier but she stood by him. That was her choice as an adult. The two kids now lose both parents which is not their choice.

Valero was a great fighter and in his last fight he absolutely battered DeMarco away from home in Mexico. I feel sorry for the two children who are the biggest victims here.

What Israel is doing is legal and right, settlements and all.

That's just your single totally biased opinion. What you will find is that the rest of the world, US government and all, is saying that Israel's land snatching and child killing is illegal and very wrong.
