To be honest, Mr. Moriyama and Mrs. Higuchi do have a point. But Mr. Moriyama and Mrs. Higuchi are just everyday punters on the street, so what difference does this article make ? None whatsoever.

And if you want to get up on your high horse defending the integrity of web news journalism, you really have to do better than choosing a website such as this. Try reading the second paragraph again before defending it. It doesn't make sense.

No need for apologies Neo. You are quite right about the Japanese/ Russian issue regarding the Kuriles.

Uneducated comment. The current medical facilities and military base provided by the British, along with it's surrounding modern naval presence, would provide a far better response than the Argentinians could ever provide. Considering that Argentina cannot even feed it's own people at the moment, that is a ridiculous quote.

Right Senor Rios. So you always lay 18,000 landmines and leave them on Argentinian sovereignty that you care so much about do you ?

To be quite honest, everyone is arguing over a barren strip of land that is a joke really. The Falklands/ Malvinas whatever, is a windswept crock of freezing cold land inhabited by a small number of mainly sheep farmers. The first settlers were European, but the only people interested in living on that frozen tundra are mainly British sheep farmers. There are no Argentinian settlers with long family histories there.
Argentina's argument that the Falkland Islands are next to them is not a valid reason. The very same argument could result in Argentina claiming sovereignty over Chile and the British already have a territorial connection in the area with the historical expeditions to the South Pole and the resulting ownership of British Antarctica.
The only reason Argentina have claimed ownership over the Falklands is because a) when there is a political election in Argentina and b) when oil was discovered in the surrounding area.
The Argentinians are not interested in living on that barren crop of rocky tundra. They just want paper sovereignty.

Hold on a second there. Isn't journalism supposed to be impartial and from a neutral point of view ? This sounds like it has been written by an Argentinian. 'Which on every schoolchilds map includes Las Malvinas islands' ?
Well, on school maps in the UK, the US and most other nations throughout the world, they are called The Falklands. The Falkland Islands are British territory. Simple fact. We can all argue about various islands around the world once upon a time being owned by somebody else. But territory is territory my friends.
It was the Argentinian government who started the last war in the Falklands when they illegally invaded the islands and we all remember what happened to them then don't we. An assortment of Argentinian conscripts are no match for Royal Marines, the Parachute Regiment and Scots and Welsh Guardsmen.

Let's get one thing straight, 65 whole years after the end of World War II. One country (Japan) has learnt to toe the line, learnt it's bitter lesson (there was nothing left in 1945), been run by the Americans for many years and kept it's promise of no military and no more war. The Japanese don't cry victim about Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They merely petition for no more atomic bombs.
However, since 1945 the other country (China) murders it's own civilians when they protest for democracy, has invaded and occupied neighbouring nations (Tibet anyone ?), constantly threatens Taiwan with war and has assisted our current favourite madman up in North Korea.
So carry on reading the crazed lectures from the anti-Japanese activists on this site, but Japan, which was left with bombed destruction and an American administration in 1945, really doesn't need to explain itself to the likes of China. The only ones playing the victim card here are the Chinese, which is a bit rich considering their recent history.

That's exactly it. It's just what YOU think. Unfortunately you are not in the police division collecting evidence on this matter.
masterkun05, I hope and pray for the good of law and order that you are not a judge or a lawyer. Although whilst reading your post it is quite obvious that you are not. Nobody is jumping blindly to the defence of the 'young' woman. We are merely damping down the fires of a modern day witch hunt and lynch-mob mentality. Have you asked yourself why the 80 year old deceased was out walking on an unlit and deserted stretch of road with no crossing at 4 in the morning ? And the driver did not run away. She drove home. With a body stuck through her windscreen and parked outside her home. Not exactly hiding evidence now is it ? Clearly this girl panicked in a major way, although is that just reason to take her liberty for, in your words, 5 years ? Even if the accident was not her fault ?

betterdays, I understood completely when I was responding. People are just making up the prosecution evidence here. The fact it was coming of age day the following day has nothing to do with this whatsoever. And the accused is 23 therefore her friends are also more likely to be 23, not 20. And (I keep repeating myself here) there is absolutely no evidence at this stage that the police found any alcohol in her blood. Who decided that she was celebrating with friends who had turned 20 ?? Posters on a website called Japan Today, that's who ! These made-up accusations that she was drinking and that she was at a coming of age party are just that, made-up by internet posters sitting on their comfy sofas at home.

Sorry, but that is rubbish. If you are driving within the speed limit and someone throws themselves under your car, you cannot stop in time. Also, if there were witnesses and you stopped and called the police you would be innocent of any crime.
Your calculator is missing a couple of years. The eldest you can be today and celebrating coming of age day is 21. She is 23 !
There is absolutely no evidence anywhere at this stage that the 23 year old had alcohol in her blood. Your dots are all over the place.

The law here is full of contradiction. Here we have a girl being charged with manslaughter, despite all the evidence pointing to the fact that the deceased was walking in very dangerous conditions at 4 in the morning. Walking on my way home from Shibuya this evening a car was parked over the pedestrian line on a narrow one way street with the driver making a pickup from a store. By complete coincidence, at the same time that I had to walk into the road to pass the parked car a policeman was cycling past. Did he stop to assess the dangerous situation ? Did he think about warning the driver ? Nope, he just cycled past. As usual. Instead of dealing with the everyday situations of danger (vehicles going through red lights, drivers talking on their mobile phones, people parking on pedestrian zones) the police just pick on easy targets like this 23 year old.

The usual witch hunt and lynch mob mentality. What exactly did this 23 year old girl do to deserve a fate worst than jail with her family getting locked up too then ?? She can be charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident, but with an old woman stuck through her windscreen I can understand the panic and horror. And what's with the manslaughter charge ? The reports stated that the stretch of road had no street lights or crossing and it was 4 in the morning ! She didn't go on the run and drove straight home so she wasn't exactly hiding evidence.

KyokoSmile, my argument is a simple one. The majority of posts on this topic are making fun of Hiroshima and Nagasaki playing a so-called victim card in order to bid for and host the Olympic games. I am merely reminding such posters that Hiroshima and Nagasaki have every right to play a victim card, considering the fact that the Americans dropped atomic bombs on both cities. Your long-winded and biased argument about Japan's human rights record during World War II has absolutely nothing to do with this news item. The US is also, as you put it, a 'world-renowned war criminal'. But Los Angeles and Atalanta were allowed to host the Games. People are accusing the Hiroshima-Nagasaki Olympic bid as a victim card and I am saying rubbish. If a Hiroshima-Nagasaki Olympic Games gives the US a guilty conscience about it's history of dropping bombs on civilians then it would have been worth it.

And why is it extremely embarrassing ? Hiroshima and Nagasaki have always stood out over the years as being rather against the Japanese government line and they have always campaigned for an end to nuclear weapons and nuclear war. Considering the impact that world history placed on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, they would make fitting venues for the Olympics. And by the way, all of my Japanese family are totally for Hiroshima and Nagasaki going for it instead of moneywaster and gangster Ishihara in Tokyo.
By 'victim-hood' (there is no such word) you mean having had American atomic bombs dropped on civilian cities ? Where you come from, have you ever experienced an American atomic bomb being dropped on your family ? By the way, the IOC have never said no to Hiroshima and Nagasaki co-hosting. It was just one opinion from one member of the IOC who said no. All these idiots posting the word victim on here have absolutely no education in world history. Hiroshima and Nagasaki are the only civilian-populated cities in history that have had atomic bombs dropped on them (by the Americans, no surprises there) and have since campaigned for world peace, despite the violence they have experienced.

cliff, welcome to the wonderful world of the Japanese equity card. The yakuza-run agencies for bikini girls and 'showgirls' has more finance and power now than the traditional theatre schools and acting agencies. These gangsters are taking a large slice of production payments for TV drama. Haruka Ayase is a typical example of a bikini model who was coached into serious drama. Ayase's wikipedia page has totally erased her early career in bikinis (mafia involvement for sure).
This is a public relations-written lie. Horikita started her career as a gravure model.
