I wonder if Japanese people have the confidence to make decisions and voice thier opinions in this context. Or if there is one strong peronality that everyone will crumble and just go along with whatever they say. Or for that matter go along with what some officer of the law/ court tells them to think and do. Will it be free from interferance from outside? We all know that Japanese people dislike rocking boats, and tend to just do what everyone else does, or what they thiink everyone else wants them to do. Japanese education needs to encourage more free thought and open discussion, for a long time, before Japanese people are even ready for this unfortunately. Although I hope my opinion is wrong, and that these changes are for the better. You would think they have to be for the better, but this is Japan...

age of consent blah blah...this is still not on. On both sides of the coin. I consider a woman to be one who has the ability to be socially AND financialy independent as an adult in the adult world. These girls, although they are doing very grown up things are still just little girls. Japan seems to be in a hurry to push them into the world of sexual objectification, but then looks all surprised when this stuff starts to happen. Easiest rule of thumb, 18. But get a look at the ID first maybe.

stalking is always a tricky situation, because there is only a percieved threat at that point. POlice screw up all the time like anyone in any other profession. I am sure there are some police here in Japan who are very dedicated to thier job, and do all they can within a flawed system, and that there are also a larger bunch of wusses who just want a pay check and a badge to flash around. Police have helped me in the past with very little information, in saving a friend in anoter city from killing herself. They got there just in time, and it wasn't easy to find her. But, that said, it was due to my, and my japanese friends persistence in trying to MAKE them help. We had to find the address to find her through other means. Persistence was the key, if you really want something done, you will get it done. If you shrug your shoulders and give up at the first obstacle, then there is little you or anyone else can do to help you. UNfortunately, men stalk women the world over, no more here than anywhere else. Everyone should be aware that the world is not a safe place these days, and take steps to keep your situation safe, through awareness, and prevention. My GF had a problem with a stalker, and the police did very little, but they did do what wasin thier power, and gave sound advice. I was all for heading out with her brothers to pay him a visit, but it would have made criminals out of us. I don't see any easy solutions to the stalking situation, except look out for yourself and your friends at all times. That includes if your friend is acting obsessively, have a word in thier ear. The blame can only eventually lie with the Murderer, and to some extent, with his friends and family for not stepping in, educating him, or getting help for him. Thats the neverending problem in Japan, fear of asking for help. Its a societal learning curve in Japan that hopefully won't take too long to straighten out, although I'm not holding my breath.

Is koizumis problem that this is a Person from NewZealand? The person himself is a success, regardless of what may happen after he steps back from the company he created. He came to Japan and is living a productive and profitable life for himself, and did so inspite of the challenges he encountered, and his attitude seems pretty cool and down to earth still. Its a good story if it shows you can copme form a small couyntry, without pockets full of capital, and still make a go of it. Thats what the story is about. Showing a different side to the expat situation here in business, instead of wallowing in American big names. If you can show that you have doine better mister Koizumi, go ahead. I will applaud you for it and not look for excuses to pull you down or write you off because of your country of origin.

yeah yeah it is ludicrous. but anything or anyone is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay. whether they are worthy or not is irrelevent, someone is willing to fork out the dough so there it is. None of us would turn it down if someone thought we were worth a multi-million salary or endorsement deal. society is screwed up to pay so much for so little, but thats not the athletes fault. They live in the same society as we do. But noone is willing to pay that much for us or our skills. too bad. Go out and get it yourself some other way. goodluck everyone, I hope you become a gazillionair. Where theres a will theres a way. Wish I could find it soon.

why dontthey just remove the stupid 30% hike they put on imported wheat which created the situation in the first place? Someone must have family and freinds or thier own stakes in wheat profits somehow, they force a hike on imports to increase demand for domestic product, then when demand is too high, they increase the price of domestic product to match, so everyone gets 30% more profit, just because teh agriculture ministry says so. Or are they trying to get people back on rice? pretty wierd series of decisions. Except that it is a common example of uncompetitive practice by japans agriculture ministry, fiddling the prices to force a closed market. yeah yeah, I know oteh rgovts do it too, still doesnt make it right. IF its cheap, let the peope buy it and eat it at its real value. Who is getting any benefit from that extra 30% anyway? Certainly not the consumers.

How exactly do you ground a train anyway? I wasnt aware that they could fly...

All a load of crap from every way I look at it.

Unskilled and uninspired artwork, uninspired solution by JR, couldnt they make other arrangements? no back up plan?

Also, last trip I took by shinkansen on the way out and the way home the damn carriage stunk worse than a public longdrop at a beerfest. It seems to be only the outward appearance and reputation that matters, but once your on the stinker its too late. They can cancel a whole days schedules runs for some graffiti, but cant stop and clean and air out the carriages during the days run, not even a squirt of air-freshner....

cancelling is to save face..those standards people are talking about are only to save face, inward problems are not taken care of( maybe I'm venturing into allegory on Japanese society oops) ...

graffiti is dumb, even if it looks cool, why not get your own wall? I think most people doing it either have anti social sentiments or just tryng to fit a gangster hiphop stereotype, or whatever stereotype. Even I did this sort of thing when I was younger, but I soon realised it was a waste of time and of other people property, and moved on to other. mediums of art. We all have choices, and chooseing to paint on a train instead of a canvas is retarded. It doesn't make you cool, and it sure didnt make that crap graffiti any better either. at least paint a picture, not a single word like some toddler with a crayon...

    1. Shes actually pretty damn hot.
    2. hate that kind of meaningless drivel that she and other popular artists sing, but thats why they are popular I guess, because most people have no ability to apreciate music that is outside of the mainstream.
      1. Never heard of her new hubby, but thats probably a good thing.
    3. I agree with a few people here, it cannot be argued that she has some kind of talent, in the least one benefited by the sony boss( her last husband), but if you are a real artist, you would find some subjects that didnt require the following words (love, baby, oooooo, yeeaaahh, do it to me) you catch the drift. IF magically appearing In the visual arts, alot of todays songs would be very restricted in genre ie soft porn, hard porn ultra violent porn, and romanticism.

When it co,es to music, I'll save my props for people who actually have something to say. all these modern pop artists are like the wiggles and barney the dinosaur for an older generation.

haha I hope thats not an American commenting on the obesity of Brits.

"article blahblah ...confession alone..." even the Japanese legal profession knows that whats written is not enforced.

Even if hes guilty, we dont believe in treating animals that badly, what make sit ok to do so to Humans? All the lynch mob folks out there should have someone they know make a bad call, and then try and feel no compassion when they are treated worse than we treat dogs. Starvation, frostbite, and years on end of solitary = torture.

It just sounds weird for a kid to get his head stuck in a backpack strap and then choke himself with it. One freak accident to many perhaps? Its about as hard to buy the...."oh he accidentally hung himself" line, as it is the "he walked right into my fist ocifer!" one.

true smartacus, but the dude had a good look at his handywork and then ran away. Have to also wonder, if there were witnesses to the incident, why had no-one helped the guy off the road already? It was well enough lit for witnesses to see it all go down it would seem. I bet someone walked straight by the bugger, and now hes dead because they didnt stop to see if he was ok.

wow this is still going, and has actually gone somewhere...

Good point to drop our gripes and offer some pointers if it really is a problem. I dont have any new ones, I'll just agree with the one that goes all the way back to sarge...Be more approachable.

The favourite girls Ive ever known in my life so far have all been western women, sometimes only in culture, but it was conversation and personality clicking that wins at the end of the day.

Foreign ladies, you are all good, as long as you give foreign men the time of day. The time of day doesnt mean anything more than that, and you might find that you meet someone you would have discounted otherwise.

greensatin: money is the only reason too keep the population level up. Otherwise, less people is a good thing. People have less babies because they want to, and because we dont need them perhaps. Maybe the whole world needs to make less babies, focus on quality rather than quantity.
