I generally try not to run over people I see on the road. Or any object in front of my vehicle. I would hope that should I ever passout from either alcohol ir sunstroke or whateve reason, that someone woul at least try to get me off the road, rather than just drive over me. Poor guy my A$$, he should have slowed when he saw what was on the road, and tried not go over it, he coulod have saved a life if he was a half competent driver, instead he snuffed one out then ran away. NEVER excuse or applaude cowards.

A NewZealander by the name of Archie Blue had a water powered mini running 100miles to the gallon in the sixties. He was offered alot of money by Saudi oil companies for full rights to his patent but he refused. He went to work in the UK for a research organisation instead. He continued to resarch and develop his ideas but was shot at in his lab, and ocnstantly threatened, after his eventual death by natural causes all his lab and materials and data were strangely destroyed.

There are also other alternatives to fuel cells in the pipe lines, and which Honda has been looking into. Im not sure why they havnt done more with it yet, but Im sure there is a reason. Anyway, its to do with Carbon based capaciters, much smaller, much more efficient at storing and putting out energy, and with a much much longer life span. No its not something I read somewhere, I have spoken to the person with the patent for Australasia and he has shown me reports and various items and products that are not in mass production, but they are there all the same. The problem is getting the public and the big companies to make use of them. Public is sceptical of anything new and different, and big companies fear the publics slow adoption of new technology, and of the outlay involved in mass producing new technology, not to mention the risk in losing an already established source of revenue.

Fairdinkum: some lightweight materials stand up to a hell of a battering. A cop mate of mine saw a rear end collision between a old school holden and a new model Mazda RX7, the 7 in the front. At a high speed the holden spun the 7 around about three times, the fibreglass pretty much bounced off the big heavy holden, the holden was a mess, the seven had a damaged rear bumper. Bring on the new lightweight non-gas cars of the future I say. If they go fast and look cool, and make a satisfying rumble when they start up( may need a fake rumble), I will happily say goodbye to the gas guzzler beasts we have now. (albeit with a tear in my eye).

Yep, why is a 16 year old kid looking after his senile Grandpa? The kid sounded like he just got too strung out, and realised his actions a little too late. Punching him for 45 minutes means the poor kid had really lost it. He had his life ahead of him and was relegated to looking after someone who had lived his, now his life will be scarred by the memory of what he did, all because he was in a situation that he shouldn't have been in at that age. But I should catch myself before I get too far ahead, or did I already...do we know if he was just looking after Pops here and there, or just this once, of all the time? I hope its not a case of him cracking at the first excuse.

Im not sure if its a can of worms worth opening here at JT, but if it does make the human race smarter, healthier and disease resistant...do we want to wait on evolution to sort it out? Im on the fence, but the positive possibilities seem to outnumber the paranoid fears. The only way to make it fair would be make it free to all, shold they choose it for thier ofspring...

Adaydream: Selective breeding through the processes of sperm donor selection is pretty much genetic engineering, just a bit more old school. Selecting a desirable mate is just seeking favourable genetic traits to combine with. Same goes for animal breeding, and agriculture. You dont keep growing the crops that fail too easily or yeild less. So yup, we already have designer babies. and its people who can afford them, that get them. The rest go do it the fun messy way, or adopt. Even then its a selection process.

Of course that is provided that you really want to raise the birth rate. That relates to whether Japan wants toretain its economic world standing, or shrink in population and production ability. Nothing wrong with being an average country with a few less people if you are better for it, in the long haul.

Make the dead beat dads pay for thier children and enforce it, maybe they wouldn't run from thier families so quickly and actually make a go of it.

Health care and education subsidies exponential to the number of children.

Enforce the eight hour work day, and all overtime is paid, so that if you are away form your family slaving for your company( second family) your first family gets the benefit of it monetarily.

Better childcare facilities and support for mothers.

Im sure Im not the first to post any of this, expecially this next one, but theres to much to read right now, but definately, mothers need to baby thier sons less, and Fathers need to be more active in the raising of thier sons and in providing a positive role model, so that maybe the boys will grow up to be men, instead mummies boys, and not be afraid to pitch in and be there for thier spouse, even if it does require an effort when they are tired.

How about some better TV dramas with functional families in them, instead of unreal celebreties being the mainstay of media role models? Reality is that ordinary people settle down and have families, not waste tgier lives chasing stardom or fancy clothes and accessories.

Yeah I heard that his grandmother used to play enka, so he grew up around it, and had an appreciation for it, so it was a natural progression for him to try singing it too. So what the hell? If you're half good at something and you have a chance at making it... go for it!!!

Most kids in Japan think enka is really lame, so hopefully his hiphop style of dressing will put them off trying to emulate african american culture which is of no relevance to them.

triumvere and jersey boy: calm down guys...someone mentions americans once you all start crying and launching personal attacks? If responding to something and admitting to seeing other aspects to something is defensive...and intollerable...I guess learning anything is too? I assume you would never in your life admit to being wrong either?

Maybe you didnt notice, I said there are alot of Americans CREATING those stereotypes, I didnt ratify them as absolute. Is it so hard to admit that maybe there some Americans giving you a bad name? Why dont you try prove it wrong instead of getting angry? Its funny that you call me defensive, what are you doing if not being overly sensitive and defensive, all because of a couple of insignificant words? Anyway, get over it. What I think should not matter to you if you are cool.

My oh my, Americans are hyper sensitive these days. Im just callin it like I see it man.

On topic...Why would we date foreign women in Japan when theres a bunch of them back home? Its like ordering a cheesburger at a sushi restaurant.

Romulus: You said it better that time. Yes, yes they are. to put it blunty, foreign women are too often grouchy cows,or pampered princesses. Why would you bother with them here?

aalmedia: I agree, in my thinking, I dont really care where the girl comes from, as long as it works out in the end.

Jersey boy and triumvere: Oh no I contradicted myself and didnt attempt to write an essay or post sources, and maybe I hurt your feelings, well this is an opinion post so get over it. You ar enot the post-police so drop the bully act. I promise I wont add you to my list of why so many Americans irritate me if you grow up. If it makes you feel any better, alot of poms(brits)I meet are way too crass in the way they talk about and treat women too, but at least they dont take themselves so seriously at the same time. Actually, are you two sure your not foreign women? THats the snarky attitude I avoid in a woman!! very good impression! Colour me impressed.

I do agree however that the dumbass statements by some of the guys here do not paint us in a good light either...its seems to be usually the American men somehow that create the stereotypes of Foreign men in Japan, with all that gung ho, port in harbour, brainwashed by fashion/porn media just as much as women, crass attitude. Just so you know, I was raised to be a gentleman, so even if I think like any red blooded male, it doesn't mean I have to spout(or like hearing) some of the ways that other readers refer to women. We are all different in appearance, and if thats all you look for and can not see beyond it, then I hope you are a perfect looking specimen yourself. Some of the best looking girls in this world are the ugliest people you could ever meet, here and abroad. If you are presentable, and got a good heart, you beat the satanbarbies anyday, (maybe not in one night though).

WAkarimasen...those are some mighty big conclusions you jump to there ...I guess you really dont wakaru haha. If you are a foreign woman and that is your response...I think you just proved the point. Im no bottom feeder, have had no trouble meeting women back home, just find that they are often not very nice. Its not true all thetime, but the girls that are worth having have been few and far between, and none of them were push overs, they were just nice approachable people.

Birth rates has nothing to with it. You are grasping at straws. What we are talking about is Japan..and Im not from Europe, and Im not from the states. SO Im sure as a foreign woman, you will find something nasty to say, all wrapped up in a stereotype of western men in Japan.

The fact that so many of us have the opinion couldnt possibly be that its based on some reality? Oh no, we are just scum bag foreign men preying on meek J-girls. Yeah whatever.

Maybe I should rephrase ever so slightly: where ever I say western women, I mean, "in my experience thus far the women in my own country ...", nah takes too long.

beats encyclopedia brittanica etc etc as it has a far wider range of topis, and has the space to go into depth. Multiple contributions also can allow for boraderf perspectives to be represented. But one has to wonder how accurate any encyclopedia can be when there is always someone to decide what is worthy, and what is an accepted viewpoint on something. Difference between empirical history versus academic discourse I guess.

Foreign women are just too mean...its not submissive to be nice... Even back home I got sick of the local girls and dated foreign girls there. Western women think any type of attempt at conversation is you hitting on them. ie: "hello" , and a roll of the eyes as a reply. Did I say something wrong? And they stiull expect us to chase around after them\? Western women have proved often (obviously not always) to be arrogant, egotistical, anti-male, Bad tempered, and generally unkind. The exceptions were far and few between. Any complaints will be linked to the fact that you have far too many tickets on yourself, and therefore can not sell even one. SOmeone also mentioned the vulgarity of foreign women, and that is another put off. You dont have to be demure and girly, but do you have to be gross? The behaviour of some foreign women here, good example being at the penis festival, ( I forget the name ) recently that I saw in thier facebook photos, is just disgusting and embarrassing. Its not just where you come from or how you look, foreign ladies, its mostly the reputation that precedes you...Aggressive, shrewish, vulgar, masculine. Foreign women have such a long list of demands of what they want in a man, but dont seem to accept that maybe we have some expectations too, and quite fair and natural expectations I might add. Foreign or local, If you are attractive, and friendly, you shouldnt have too much problem. I would at the end of the day prefer a girl with a more compatible culture to spend my days with, but preferably one with a lot less issues. Its more likely that I will find a Japanese girl who is willing to meet me halfway than another westerner.

    Datsun haha

Too bad they dont make em anymore, those things went pretty well for what they were, and kept going even when they were ancient and falling apart.

All japanese cars seem to have thier gremlins...nissan suspension...toyota cam pulleys...

Hondas always feel weak when I drive them, cant explain why. Toyotas feel mechanically sound untill about 80000 kms, then all sorts of things go wrong, and the body always feels too flimsy, and is prone to rust.

MAzdas...too easy to steal, or at least that was thier claim to fame for a long time back home.

European cars, over priced, all prestige and nothing much else to back it up. I liked how th ehonas200 outperformed equivalen prosche and bmw models when it came out. A little bit plain in design though.

Mitsubishi...run like a cut cat..just cant trust that company though.

I guess ford...although a bit boring in design these days and lagging behind in technology and performance to other less reliable makes. Still a solid bet, and thier classics stay classic, if that makes sense.
