Unfortunately, Aso still benefits to this day from the labour of those slaves. He was born into not just any family, but a rich and powerful one, and that has helped him to be in the position he is in now. How about his family coffers cough up the money gained from the mines during that time at a percentage of slave workers to paid workers? The fact that he denied it until proof emerged also warrants an apology, for the lies at the very least. I agree apologies, heartfelt or fake don't change or benefit anything much, but it kind of goes hand in hand with acknowledging the fact that it occurred.

meh...salary = a poor manipulation of the word slavery.

Freedom is an illusion. There is no absolute freedom, and very small percentages only are available....except to those who have historically had it for a long long time, those old, wealthy, and/or powerful families of all colours and creeds. Freedom has and will always be a saleable and removable luxury.

Yes, I hate this fact, and it sucks balls that many people have been and still are enslaved, which is the lowest percentile of freedom,ie. almost zero.

Apologies dont do much for the dead. They dont change the past. They dont make the present better by much. I tend to distrust those that would do something evil, and then expect an apology to make it all better. But I guess every Govt needs to generate a feelgood Newspaper story somehow.

Im with you on that one spudman. Why no coverage on the Junior rugby workd champiionship? It was a World cup tournament by future stars of an international sport, and a forerunner to Japans Hopes to host the 2015 world cup. It was a great tournament with NZ the victor in the end for those interested. I think the main reason it doesnt get coverage is because Japan does not win any games yet. The Japanese, like many countries really, are only fair weather supporters.

baseball had its chance, softball is just as boring, roller sports?you've got to be kidding. Squash makes sense kind of, Karate...we already have wrestling and judo and boxing. Sevens, as magpie said, alot of countries that non-rugby followers have never even heard of would at least be able to put in a fair fight. I doubt there are squash courts a plenty in the small pacific nations among others though, nor baseball fields. Golf? Too exclusive a sport for it to have universal appeal. Sounds like squash and rugby sevens to me. Both fast paced, and reasonably easy for someone to get involved with in most countries. Maybe Karate for its appeal and availability worldwide.

although there are a few funny one liners in these posters, I find the prudes indignation ten times more amusing. If you like food and the female form, what better way is there to combine the two?

I stayed in a hotel in nagano recently that had HUGE bloodstains on teh floor. It looked like someone must have bled to death in there, but I still managed to sleep like a baby. So perhaps as long as there is not lastnig evidence of blood etc, and no spooks hanging about rattling the dishes....sure, why not?

Seems like people are jumping to a lot oc conclusions. It only says that she made the comment after the concert. There is no mention of anything else she may have said, or even in what context it was said. Chances are, this is just thrown up in this way to get you all foaming at the mouth as usual. oh, and 5 times a day is not so ridiculous, 5 times everyday however, that could get painful and would get boring. Perhaps she meant that she enjoys sex so much that she has it as often as 5 times a day at times. Obviously she isn't the sharpest tol in the shed if she is a 'tarento', so she probably has trouble saying what she means. MInd you, I know very little about her or other tarento because I can't stand them and ave little interest in them, but as others have mentioned, it could just be self promotion, and/or trying convince herself and everyone that she is a hottie. But I also agree with some other posters, with a mug like that, no wonder she is trying so hard.

This hardly warrants being called rampage. More like 'multiple stabbings'.

If anything, this whole country seems to be in the grip of a stabbing rampage.

GJDaileult: thanks for the info. Im just tryingto get my head around how dangerous this strain of teh flu is compared to the run of the mill flu. Also some ethnicities have been shown to be more susceptible to certain viruses, in that their immune system is not equiped to recover from it. Do people still occasionally die form regular flu or is it just this one that is a step ahead of human imuno-resistence?
I also wonder how much of a point there is fighting nature, when there willalways be a new bug, a new disaster, a new something to take us bigger vertabrits down a peg or two. How about we genetically modify the crap out of our sytems to waste anything we may catch, instead of trying to figure out each and every bug that pops it head up at a time..? Yeah I know...

If you like eaing it, farm it, rather than hunt it to extinction. As a species, we should be beyond hunting things into extinction if not by now then very soon.

that and the table charge at bars, butI digress. The venues focus on making money more than making a great venue, which in the long run would make everyone more money and happy.

heh, nice story timor. I agree the live houses could do well by themselves, the customers, and teh bands by having more of a bar/ club setup, rather than aiming at underagers. Its a but sad that bands actually have to pay the house to play. In fact one I went to recently, my frineds bands were paying to play, patrons paid 2sen5hyaku at the door, which included one drink in a plastic cup which after that would cost 500 yen. Not cheap, but there were plenty of people in the audience, and the bands were all paying to play still!!!

ALot of them are gigging alot, but its costs them more than they ever make. COnsidering how many great and aspiring bands there are in Japan, why are they so poor? Because they are original, creative and well, not normal. They get ripped off by the industry untill they are too popuar to ignore, while the real money is poured into the factory produced, unoriginal untalented pop robots.

well, If we are so aware and concerned about pedophiles, and feel that this guys actions mean he must be one, and that he is a threat to children and should be arrested, then I think it should be obvious that it is not ok, or safe for 9 year old girls to be naked in public. Why give sexual predators the opportunity? He may not have touched anyone yet, but how long before his fascination with naked children goes to the next level? Dont give him free shows for goodness sake! With that many photos, he has to be taking them for a unsavoury purpose.
