Ditto the poster about the relationship with cellphones. Many people I see on dates are texting someone whilst the partner is doing the same thing across the other side of the same table. Either that or looking glum, disinterested or otherwise disengaged. There is a core of the Japanese people that is loneliness itself. Most men reminisce about 'ba chans' 'ne chans' 'ka sans' . The females all pine for a South Korean actor who is a snappy dresser, has a medical degree, has figured out the cure for cancer, a Ferrari and a love of whipping up French quisine at a moment's notice for the Japanese lady-friend. A great many just cannot shake off the millstone which in this society is and education system which simply discourages the notion that it's ok to be me.

In a country where judges have been quoted as saying about those arraigned; 'no one has come before me and not been punished'. (sic) The medieval maze that is the Japanese judicial system is to put it simply, best avoided. This is a very weird system and if you've somehow gotten so much as a fingernail in it, it will slowly pull you in and grind one to powder. Scary ...

The plot thickens; the NY Times reported on the possibility of a missing $4.9 billion Olympus money and that much of it went to organized crime groups. Take care Mr. Woodford. Please take very good care.

This reflects just how misunderstood wine is in this country. BJ is silly wine for silly people who belong in the bubble age when this rubbish made an entry for the yuppies flush with money and no taste.

The modern age ... in the day, a couple of slaps to the face and it would've all been over.

Let them do whatever they want to do. But it really makes me feel sad inside. As if their lives are not tough enough already. Tennis, basketball for the wheelchair bound etc., I think is great. But this?

@BrakuminDes. Des my man, JAL is a carrier in trouble like Qantas. The difference is, the CEO of JAL offered to take a massive salary cut (somewhere in the order of $120,000 pa) You can see it on Youtube, whereas Joyce now with a 71% salary increase sic. is trying to play the ugly unions card in the Oz media. I agree there has to be realistic salary offers to staff and baggage handlers in particular seem to be paid way too much. Now if we're speaking of puke and revulsion at greed, this has to be it.

Joyce is a greedy little leprechaun. Allowing a massive salary increase and nixing salaries for rank and file. Granted, some workers are being paid to much but for this creep to farm out labor to Asian workshops with dubious reputations reeks of a disaster in the making for the wonderful company. The CEO of the troubled carrier JAL took a massive salary cut, a mer fraction of Joyce's millions and shunned all perks. He eats with rank and file and is highly respected. It's on Youtube and worth a look. Anyway, my point is Joyce and the Qantas board make me want to puke ...

Really? Oh ... so if one is critical it equates to hatred? Dear me, someone on this forum has a problem.

"Fired for failing to understand Japanese cooperate culture". Good, I've had a hearty chuckle and big smile on my face for several minutes hearing that old chestnut trotted out again. Keep 'em coming JT. How about, we Japanese are one with nature? Haven't heard a few of these oldies since the wind got knocked out of their economic sails and they've realized the awful truth of swaggering around with high-handedness in the 80s was going to come back and bite them on the bum.

What's the beef here? Maher was 'right' about Okinawa and he's right about this. It seems to me some people reach a threshold in life where they can't take any more BS and want to tell it like it is for a change. Everyone even the Japanese themselves knows that the Japanese government is utterly hopeless except for 'talk'. Along comes a modern day Diogenes and tells it like it is for a change and that to me at least, is refreshing.

johninaha: tells it like it is ... Psychiatry is the least popular choice for med. students save perhaps obstetrics and gynecology. Students are pretty much 'told' where their talents (abilities) lie and it's true, those who go into psychiatry are usually reluctant to do so but left with little choice due to grades, filled quotas in other areas etc.

As so many have already said; about bloody time! The selfishness of the young here has gone berserk. Listening to some J pop meandering over the road and at speed all the while staring into a cellphone. I've had it with the morons. TIme to get a lot tougher ...

Gasoline driven cars have been obsolete for more than 50 years. What's taken them so long? Greed and keeping the status quo by big oil as we all know but are too afraid to take a realistic look at. When new technologies emerge, the paradigms shift through the force of innovation. These cars should have by now, been far ahead of their technological levels shown at here.

I should have added that the Yamato looked fabulous on the drawing board, still does, but in reality was just a hopeless failure. God only knows how much fuel it must have needed to get to Okinawa.
