The booth, in keeping with the theme was made completely of cardboard. One of the staff commented that "just the smell of tourists made me sleepy".

Quite convinced that she was aware that there were warrants out for her but CHOSE to go back and renew some visa status. How insane can you be!! Totally delusional is my prognosis. The child will be much better with the father in this particular case.
Cleo....usually the voice of reason here, shows some chinks in the emotional armour. Don't worry, nobody is perfect.

I think the collective point being made here is that you don't realize that everyone's situation is different. Your case worked out all right. Maybe, in your particular case, it was you who had in fact been unreasonable/an idiot and you realized just that. You changed your ways. Good for you.I am glad it worked out well for you and that is a genuine thought.

michaelqtodd: and what is your point? That you could seemingly come to some amiable agreement with your ex but the author couldn't? Should we throw coins or a low bow would suffice?

Altria, I went to an onsen last week for the very first time and that was the first bath I tried. Got the "shock" of my life. I don't feel so comfortable when water and electricity come together. Could be just my dodgy ticker.

Taniwha, Japan may well be in for hard times as you say. I don't know. However, if Japan is in for hard times it is only because the rest of the world, namely those very countries that you mention Japan does so much export trade with, is also in considerble hardship. I would also suggest you refrain from comments like
It goes without saying that you think your assessment is "pretty realistic". Everyone would like to write their own reviews. Most people don't however.

Barfly's comments, polluted by irrational nationalism, are ridiculous. When Americans start making products that the world wants, they will succeed. Unfortunately, like the Japanese in the late 80's, they assumed that economies could be sustained through financial chemistry. The only difference between the Japanese in the late 80's and the Americans now is that the Japanese never lost the plot with the manufacturing end of it. Take out the financial engineering component of the US economy and there is no one left in the pointy end. Everyone is flying cattle-class. Prepare to be slaughtered.

Rajakumar, The first part of your post is correct. Unfortunately the last part is just full-blown dribble. "Richest in land"; that comment just cracks me up. A new world order is very slowly being put in place. Sad, but true. Get used to it.

Nice to see a little low brow stuff.. ala Rupert Murdoch and the Mainichi's WaiWai. This is the way to sell papers. Good stuff.

I would like to add further, that a more insightful analysis of the Japanese male mind could be provided by any number of JT message board contributors. No names. You know who you are.

Mod: The comments have been quite civil. The problem lies with the content. Reminds me a lot of some books re Japan written in the 60's and 70's. Been here 20 years or so, and while I have met some of the above mentioned lads, they have been in the minority. This phenomena is universal, hence the English expression" mama's boy". Westerners avoid this label at all cost even though, at heart, they never left the nipple. I would suggest the author is in his 20's (not that there is anything wrong with that).
