You are so confused I wouldn't even know where to start. And so Israel has a right to exist? But tell me, does Palestine have a right to exist then?

Such shocking news! I think the government should release a statement on the matter. Or maybe even declare a state of emergency?

Yes, food is there to fill in the creativity void. I remember when Sophia Loren was on Bistrot Smap. It was just a whole half hour of her eating and nothing else. And all the time she just kept saying "the food is nice but am I just supposed to keep eating? Is that it?"-obviously this wasn't translated. But of course that was not it because K Shingo still had to come out and do his little impersonation act... a deeply pathetic show. And talk about creative void. What about Turibia No Izumi? I found it pretty entertaining but it was cut simply because there were no new ideas. So now instead we have to watch more commedians playing pathetic games and of course eating, eating and babbling "oishiii!" And never spicy, delicate, juicy, crispy, creamy... just oishii. I actually remember one of them once saying oishii about cold "coniac". Anyways for me now the torture is finished since after one "oishiiii" too many my tv went flying out of the window... literally.

The thing is this stuff happens ALL the time in Italy. The Japanese seem to have thought that the students were alone in the stupidity and somehow made Japan look bad internationally. No such thing. Their graffiti definitely won't look any worse than the thousands others already there. So don't worry, move on with your life and don't feel ashamed or in need to apologise when I tell you I'm Italian.

"Plus the widely-held assumption that, like mathematics, there is and can be only one correct answer." I think that is just schools' way of doing things. Kids are brought up to believe that there is 1 correct answer for many other subjects too - like History or Science etc. Subjects over which in reality there is alot debate. But as long as English goes I must say that I met alot of people out here who speak very well and can definitely make themselves understood. And none of them had ever resided in an English speaking country. That's impressive. And it's a big difference from my own country (Italy) where one would really struggle to find someone to speak to in English even in Milan or Rome.

I'll never work out the reasoning of gun advocates. Guns are made to kill, therefore more guns = more deaths. It's not rocket science. Sure if they were banned you could get one illegally... or could you? I sure as hell wouldn't know where to get one from and if I did I would probably not even get close to the people in question. At any rate, things are easier in the US. Want an illegal gun to commit a crime with? Just steal the one your neighbor keeps under the pillow.

"nothing was missing when a teacher checked the classroom around 5 p.m. on Tuesday when she was locking up."
Call me the suspicious type but even just this suggest to me the police won't have to look very far. And I wonder whether this teacher might have not worked at that school for exactly 3 years...

how about the obvious like maternity/paternity leave, better job security not just for salarymen, reduced overtime hours? I also think a more open society would help. My impression of Japan is that unless you have money for jukus and expensive schools and universities your child is condemned to a life of deep bowing and insignificance. The children of poor people will be poor and no degree of skill will change this since skill is hardly recognised.

How about this article is an incredible collection of cliches? The only one left out is violent videogames - how can you forget this in Japan? Oh yes the good old "traditional values", like when my grandfather used to knock my grandmother allover the house while calling her a slut and all? Still they were married for life because being "traditionally" minded they just couldn't think of divorce. But now you tell me why that is a good thing.

How about the bottled tea commercials where they show people binging on junk food without any sense of guilt because "hey, this tea will melt all the fat away!" That surely should be included in this article?

"The AJWRC has seen little progress in its three decades of operation, and it has had to endure constant pressure from groups who claim it is destroying family values by raising awareness of gender issues."
As if to say "ignorance is bliss". And maybe, just maybe, Jane's story is the topic of this article because she is a member of a rape victims' organisation? Oh no, according to some clever posters she was choosen only because she was raped by a us serviceman...

"Quinn told the court that Leone’s age, his lack of a criminal record and the fact he pleaded guilty to spare his victims the trauma of testifying were factors in his sentence. The judge did not declare Leone a dangerous offender, a designation that would have jailed him indefinitely."
I agree, he's a good boy deep inside. A good boy that would have knowingly granted 15 people a slow and painful death just to satisfy his sexual impulses. Wasn't he at least wearing protection? Does that not make him a serial murderer?

So does it mean that so far having dark skin would have automatically made you a suspect terrorist? Like you couldn't walk through an airport without being "detected"? Does it mean that the CIA has been keeping track of the daily activities of all non-western looking people living in the US? How many non-western-looking people does the average western-looking american see everyday? Does he alert the police every time? I would think not. I would think that unless he lives in some semi-segregated mid-western village he probably won't give a damm about the colour of the people around him. So why would the CIA tell us that Al Quaeda is going through the bother of finding agents that can more easily "mix with the crowd" so to say? Is it to frighten us into believing that "evil is amongst us" and no longer just with them arab-looking types? Is it to convince us that we've allowed them to built too many mosques and we've now been infected? Is it to prepare us for when eventually white american citizens will end up in Gitmo, be tortured and so on? Anyways, let the whitchunt begin!
