Well, they're sure to listen now.

Surely there are more important issues celebrities can lend a voice too, or are they all covered by George Clooney, Angelina Jolie and Bono?

Unfortunately the Leaf is just still too expensive for the average Taro. Who would pay 4 million for a Nissan that, apart from the engine, is really not all that different from a Nissan Tiida that costs less than half the price?

A Toyota Prius is even 1.5 million yen cheaper.

I admire their courage in pushing through with this idea, but they still have a long way to go before they can take on hybrids.

sure a few songs are OK but compared to radiohead for example-not even close.

Of course you are absolutely correct, and also absolutely wrong, depending on what your music tastes are. To each their own I say. Personally I never really enjoyed Radiohead, or Coldplay for that matter. Nothing moves me more than a bit of Bach - definitely the one of the best "acts" of the past 500 years.

Papa, how on earth do you know when didn't play around with this?

Sorry tmarie, I'm not attacking you personally. The "you" in "you've just fallen victim to a simple marketing trick." is not directed at you personally, but people in general who go to an electronics shop, look at all the different TVs lined up and make assumptions about which one offers the best image quality based solely upon what they see in the store.

Granted, everyone's tastes are different, and perhaps Panasonic TVs don't suit you're taste, but to claim that "Panasonic is lacking in quality in the flat screen dept." when the majority of independent TV reviews rank Panasonic near the top in picture quality, is just factually incorrect.

The Panasonic weren't anywhere near as clear as the others - and the colours were crap

Don't be fooled by appearances when looking at TVs lined up at an electronics store. You can adjust the sharpness and contrast and numerous other options on any tv. If you were bored, you could line up each brand's tv, and with a bit of work get them all producing exactly the same picture. It is pretty much common knowledge that many salespeople tweak the picture on the tvs they really want to sell (those with the highest profit margin for them) so they look more vibrant in-store, and to the uninformed consumer it looks like a "higher quality picture". The truth is, you've just fallen victim to a simple marketing trick.

Natsuki Okamoto, 22 ??? she must be 40+

Actually I was thinking Reina looks at least 30+ in this photo... she looks like a slightly haggard yochien mum, fashion and all.

Panasonic is lacking in quality in the flat screen dept. We ended up with a Toshiba - cheaper and clearer.

Funny, Panasonic consistently rates as one of the top, if not the top rated television for contrast and picture quality. Toshiba doesn't even rate a mention. The problem is not with Panasonic's product, it is with their profitability when competing against cheaper Korean brands that image wise are not necessarily as good, but are cheaper and more stylishly designed (same goes for Korean cars).

It's funny how Australia etc. really have a hissy fit when Japan and whaling are mentioned together in the same sentence, but the world should be much more worried about this.

Like others, I've never really had an issue at Japanese airports. The staff aren't exactly the friendliest bunch I have encountered, but they are professional so I can't complain. I'm not too keen on the fingerprint thing, but I guess that's the price I have to pay if I want to live/visit here.

There was a period of a few years that my passport was inexplicably red-flagged. I have no idea why because I have never been convicted of a crime - not even a speeding ticket - yet for some reason every time I left or entered the country I had to go to the little office at the side for them to let me through. I actually felt quite lucky, because waiting time was always zero and they were always polite, apologising for making me go to their office instead of lining up with everyone else.

Imagine knowing your significant other is hiding things from you.....

Even if I'm not hiding things from my wife, that doesn't give her the right to invade my privacy, and vice versa.

If you want to act this juvenile for the rest of your miserable life, dont get married and dont have children

I think that is being a bit unfair. I can guarantee in many cases the wife is the cause of the husband not wanting to come home. Some wives, especially these かかあ天下 types make coming home for the husband a living nightmare. Instead of blaming the husbands for going out drinking instead of going home, how about asking the cause of the reason "why" the husband doesn't want to go home?

I have a few friends that have told me their wives get angry if they come home too early. One guy said his wife won't let him in the door until after 11pm (her excuse is she wants to make sure the kids are asleep before he comes home, because if he comes home early they will want to play with him and stay up late).

For better or worse, my wife insists on managing all our finances. Her idea of "smart money management" is dividing everything up separate bank accounts, each with their own hanko and tsuucho - One for me, one for her, one for our son's school fees, one for nenkin payments, one for our business, one for God knows what - each earning 0.001% interest or whatever the going rate is. My account always has the least amount of money in it because all our bills are automatically deducted from my account. The bank is pretty Neanderthal. You cannot have multiple accounts under one card, there are no "joint accounts", if you want to do e-banking it incurs an extra monthly fee. There are no investment options - and this is the largest bank in the Chu-Shikoku region. Personally I don't see the point in keeping anything other than the bare minimum of money in Japanese banks, but my wife insists.

My hesokuri is a substantial sum in savings back in my home country earning a decent interest rate. It is not really a secret from my wife, but I refuse to hand it over to her to put into a Japanese bank.

I eat fairly healthily, but I recently I started taking a multivitamin & mineral tablet once a day, just in case. They're cheap enough, and it's only one tablet, so why not?

Now Softbank is running a campaign where if you purchase an iPad2 at the same time as your iPhone your connection and packet fees become 0 yen (for 2 years??) up to 100MB a month... Having never used an ipad, am I to presume that the average user is going to go way over 100MB a month making this campaign pretty pointless or is it actually a pretty good deal??
