yes, that sums up my views. I understand that gays shouldn't be singled-out, and that the whole system should be overhauled to ensure that people who actually need benefits get them, and those who don't shouldn't be entitled to them.
Pukey2 Some supporting documentation please.
I guess what it comes down to is, if the govt is unwilling to change the system to exclude childless housewives, should gay be included as dependents? Personally I don't think it makes sense to exasperate the problem by increasing the number of people entitled to freebies, but from an equality viewpoint I suppose there is little choice. It has nothing to do with my opinion of gays. I just don't like seeing our taxes wasted.

I voted no, because if you have a same sex relationship that by nature isn't going to produce any children, then I think it is unfair that one of them could then theoretically quit his/her job and become a dependent of the other, thereby claiming taxpayer benefits that they are making no contribution towards (The same goes for childless housewives).

It depends on what country the non-native speaker is from. If from Japan, then I'd say yes they can do a better job, especially with young kids.

In a competition where looks mean everything, this is a peculiar choice. She may not be ugly, but she isn't anything special either.

I think it's all a sinister plot by the IHA to discredit Aiko from an early age so she won't become a serious challenge to her little cousin when the time comes to choose between one of them. Nothing works better than a smear campaign (except perhaps assassination), so why not start young?
Naruhito and Masako are "distressed" not because "they" caused public concern (I'm sure they had nothing to do with this news leaking out), but that neither of them have the balls to stand up to the IHA and are powerless to stop their little daughter from being victimized by the Imperial beast.
Posted in: Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako told the media in a statement that they feel distress for causing public concern about their 8-year-old daughter Princess Aiko, who stayed away from school after reportedly encountering rough behavior by boys in her grade. What do you think about all this?

Just because a company sells the most products, that doesn't mean it is number one in quality. Samsung may indeed be number one when it comes to sales, but I'd be willing to pay a premium for a Panasonic TV/Camera/Stereo/Fridge/AC over a Samsung product any day of the week.

My completely unsubstantiated guess is that people who buy Samsung or LG usually do so because they are cheaper than Japanese products, not because they are "better". Japanese brand electronics are still seen as a premium brands in many parts of the world... the problem is people can't afford them.

Don't judge Leo by Titanic which was probably one of his worst movies. A great actor I'm glad to see is still alive despite driving one of those Prius death-traps. :)

try typing a text message with one hand on your iphone while standing on a crowded train and you'll understand what I'm talking about. The iphone is fine if you've got two hands free. But a good portion of Japanese and non-Japanese alike like to use their phones with one hand.

For Japanese users? Sharp by far. Sharp menus are the most intuitive.
iphone may look cool and work fine for English users, but it is too cumbersome for people who type in Japanese.

Not necessarily so. With sports photography such as this you want a fast lens, but even f2.8 will be pushing it for indoor work unless the place is extremely well lit. When you've got your $5000 300mm f2.8 lens on your camera and still only have 1/60 shutter speed, you're going to need to bump up ISO to get shutter speed high enough to handle the motion.

I don't think we as a whole are picking on Japanese celebrities. If JT featured more photos of foreign celebrities, I have no doubt we'd diss them just as much. ^o^
So why do we do it?
It makes us feel better about ourselves to rationalise that despite the ludicrous incomes some celebrities generate for having very little talent (think Kano sisters etc.), us plebs are better off in our sarariman jobs because we are in fact smarter and more talented than them.
It's a paradox, I know. Who is smarter? The person who works 80 hour weeks for 45 years to put food on the table, or the person who sees an opportunity to make a quick buck, and milks the system while they have chance?

I agree, but I wouldn't call him a foreign personality. Dave Spector's a foreign personality. Pakkun is a foreign personality.

While I lament over stifled Japanese creativity and quality issues, I must admit I'm enjoying my Panasonic plasma tv (which is much better quality than anything Samsung or LG put out), driving a Honda that hasn't had one glitch in 10 years on the road (compared to my friend's VW which has gone in for repairs 3 times in 5 years), and take spectacular photos and videos of my son with my Canon DSLR and video camera, which I looking at on a Mitsubishi monitor and print on Fujifilm paper.
Despite the terrible education system and inefficient corporate management in Japan, they must be doing something right... Imagine what they could develop if they were given free reign to design whatever they liked.
