Scenes of burning buildings and street battles in Athens offer a violent reflection of growing weariness…

hahaha, well i guess that's the best they can do on such short notice.. what a waste of taxpayer money.. grab a kusanagi poster from an electronics shop if you can - they may be worth something in 10 years..

Uh, couldn't her comment just mean that the mental stress associated with all of this has also had a physicial toll on her? Excessive stress can really mess you up physically.
Though I guess the possibility of DV is more appealing to the tabloids.

I must admit, despite his occasional lapses of common sense (we all have them - the only difference is we don't have paparazzi following us everywhere to report them), he seems to be one of the more genuinely "nice" celebrities out there. Now time for me to go and watch Top Gun for the umpteenth time...

Just give the sensitive half-Japanese folk out there the chance to refer to themselves as "doubles", and that should make everyone happy. As for me, I don't take offense when my son is called "haafu", because that is what he is - half Japanese.
How he will react to it when he is old enough to go to school, I don't know, but so far every comment I have heard from Japanese people has been of admiration and jealousy, and other mothers saying they want a half-child as well.

Yes, that should be banned too. It encourages bad health.
I'm all for dwarf tossing though.

And that is where the objections arise. I'm all for jumping around in mud half naked, or pushing and shoving other half-naked men to grab a piece of wood, or being chased by bulls, or nailing myself to a cross etc. Each culture has their own traditions that are in many ways masochistic. Only when we are purged do we become cleansed, no?
But including babies in the ritual exposes them to unnecessary risks. Perhaps not life-threatening ones, but a 1.5m fall into shallow mud with only God knows what in it is probably not in the child's best interests.

I'm all for upholding tradition, but when it jeopardises the safety of a forced (and probably in many cases, fairly reluctant) participant, I have to question whether it is a ritual worthy of continuation.
I suppose one consolation is, at least the kids aren't stripped naked as well.

Some tips when considering Jetstar and their competitors
As for service, they aren't the best airline I have flown with, but they are certainly not the worst either.

Er, perhaps you don't understand the concept of budget airlines. The whole point of them is to cut costs by providing a no-frills service. If it is service you are after, look elsewhere and pay extra.
If you just want a cheap flight to Australia, but don't need the crappy airline food, earphones and blanket and don't want to spend up to 9hrs in transit in an airport in Asia, Jetstar is fine.
Just buy a bento before clearing customs and a few bottles of drink from the vending machines at the departure gates and you'll have a meal everyone who chose the airline food would drool over.

Well it's just as scandalous that politicians, celebrities and countless other people who have no financial worries whatsoever are entitled to this handout as well.

Pioneer have, for many years, been the cream of the crop in the plasma TV industry. Their "kuro" plasmas are considered the industry benchmark against which everything else is compared. Their DVD players also consistently rank as the best quality/value for money.
Their troubles started over a few years ago when they started outsourcing their plasma panels to Panasonic, and with Panasonic and Hitachi's aggressive pricing strategies, Pioneer just can't keep up.
Still, it is a shame to see the best in the industry knocked out for consistently providing top-end products that AV fans drool over.

I am no fan of J-pop, but it is no worse than the music industries of many other Asian countries. And to presume that the UK or US music scenes are any more talent-driven is selective thinking.
What is the purpose of comparing dead music legends to modern J-pop? Hendrix, Morrison, Elvis etc. could just as easily be compared to a bunch of over-produced, semi-talented Western musicians of the past decade. Spice Girls anyone? Britney? Paris Hilton? NKOTB? NSYNC? the list goes on and on.
The Japanese music industry, like the music industries in most countries I am familiar with, has A LOT of crap, mingled with occasional brilliance. I suppose one is free to write off the whole Japanese music scene based on what they see on the oricon charts, but to do so would be to also deny themselves the discovery of some of the most original and talented artists coming out of Asia.

Indeed. A Mainichi report on the incident said that her condition was deemed "non-life threatening" despite receiving a large blow to the head, but she died in hospital after her condition worsened.
I'm not saying the doctors were negligent, but there certainly is that possibility when a patient's condition is presented as non-life threatening, and then they die soon afterwards.

What about 1. An IT company that gives all of its employees (excluding directors) only 10 days paid-leave a year, regardless of how long they have worked with the company? 2. The same company not letting employees carry over holidays to the next year. That's where I used to work, and the labour bureau does absolutely nothing to help.
At least these folks have holidays to sell..
