I was reading an article the other day that said to live a "celeb" life after retirement of "eating out a few times a month and one overseas trip a year", you will need to save 60,000,000 yen on top of your pension before you retire. Good luck with that...

All cool technologies but as long as they are only available on high-end model cars that are priced out of the range of most families, what is the point?
If it is a real "safety" feature that saves lives, I wish they would make it standard across the range.

I have to agree with Bartholomew.... it's really kind of mind-boggling how despite their utter lack of musical ability, they have managed to be one of Japan's number one performers for two decades!!
To be fair to the guys, they DO give to charity privately - just not "officially" as a group. What many people fail to realise is after 20 years, they are still really only employees of Johnny's. I'd be surprised if they had any creative control whatsoever in anything they do - they just do what they are told, which seems to be a winning formula for their employer and themselves.

So all Korean men must be heroes then. He's not volunteering you know.
I sometimes think Japanese men would be better off with a year or two of military service too - whip em into shape, teach them some discipline - but I'm sure Japan's neighbours (and the Japanese public) would never allow that.

I have no problem with older kids playing in the streets... that is normal as they are (usually) smart and quick enough to get out of the way when a car is coming. But don't you think a 5yr old, unsupervised, playing on the road is a bit reckless? Perhaps it is normal where you grew up, but where I grew up 5yr olds didn't play outside (in the front yard at least) without adult supervision. Maybe times have changed. But I know I certainly wouldn't let my 5yr old play on the road by himself. To me that is common sense, but I guess not everyone feels that way.

Unfortunately "Roads are not safe places to play" is about as understood as "Seatbelts save lives". It's not as though Japan lacks parks for kids to ride their tricycles around in safely - I'm not sure whether a parent or guardian was watching the child ride on the road, or if he was out there by himself. Either way, what was lacking most here was parental responsibility.

Although the design doesn't win me over, it's a great family car for soccer mums driving around the suburbs, but not so good when doing 120 on the freeway. It has a fairly high center of gravity and you can really feel the body roll when turning corners.
Still, it amazes me how many families of 3 there are driving cars that seat 8 people. Back home they'd be crucified by the enviro-nazis.

Definitely reasonably priced and well worth a look if you are an English teacher. Unfortunately I don't understand why they do these expos in October, which is a busy time for most teachers and parents. With Undokais, Eiken test preparation and Halloween events, for many teachers there is no time to attend - especially if you live in the countryside.
