Japan can do without preaching on how to fix its economy

Stop the "gaiatsu"! The Japanese don't need any help.

I mean, Henry Hilton has a long track record of being right, doesn't he?

It is not in the job description of the President of the United States of America to counter negative stereotypes of Islam and Muslims in the U.S. and throughout the world. According to the speech, though, Obama seems to think so.

But then again, George W. Bush must've thought when he took the oath of office that something required him to be the defender of the Iraqi people, first and foremost, so there must be a secret fill-in-the-blanks presidential preference questionnaire that the ordinary citizenry is unaware of.

Anyway, resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in a way that is agreeable to both sides in the foreseeable future is about as likely as Tokyo Gov. Shintaro Ishihara driving the lead bulldozer to demolish Yasukuni Shrine.

President Obama is trying to be all things to all people as he continues on his world celebrity tour, but he will find out over the next few years that this is not possible, and, ultimately, if there is not a lasting economic recovery in place before the mid-term congressional elections, he'll find the going much tougher at home, let alone what foreign policy challenges he encounters.

No more blond hair, no more 'roids, hell, Kazuhiro Kiyohara is starting to look human again.

Miss Bloodgood is pretty hot, but it's easy to find better looking Japanese women any old day.

"Charles Donald Albury, co-pilot of the plane that dropped the atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan, has died after years of congestive heart failure. He was 88."

Thanks for doing your duty and saving many lives on the Allied forces side and the Japanese side.

    Bridge over troubled waters

Or is the whole point of this movie simply an attempt to stir up the waters to make some money six and half decades after World War II?

It's time to move on and away from issues related to the war.

"The introductory pages of the Tokyo chapter alone are full of them: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Imperial Hotel is said to have been destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, when in fact it was one of the temblor’s most famous survivors; the dates of Tsunayoshi Tokugawa’s reign are mixed up with those of the Genroku period (and even these are a year off); we’re told that the Tokyo Olympics was held in 1968 (it was 1964); Japan’s wartime prime minister is called Togo (it was Tojo); Hongo is described as being near somewhere called “Ochanimizou” (sic). And so on."

Any book about Japan that has more errors than a typical Wikipedia entry on the country is not worth buying.

Why are there no good-looking guys on daytime TV?

Because what is truly important is highlighting Japan's #1 asset-its beautiful women!

"Of course Tokyo Dome is air-conditioned. They turn it on during the baseball games when the Giants are at bat to give them extra help hitting home runs."

It wouldn't suprise me if they really do this. This is the team that insisted they had sellouts every game for many years that was at a number 10,000 in excess of the available seats. They are capable of anything.

Notre Dame had better come prepared to play. The Japanese team will probably have talent similar to what we would see in the U.S. from a really good D-III team. I don't think there is any Japanese all-star team that could match up for 60 minutes with a I-AA team, let alone any of the 120 I-A teams. But if Notre Dame brings over a roster full of out-of-shape older guys who were never their top individual talents in the first place, they could be in for a rude awakening. We shall see.

Fadamor: You'll get it after you've been on JT a few more months or so.

I saw the Blue Impulse at Iruma Base a few years ago and wasn't overly impressed. But then again, after being around the Blue Angels in the Navy, the Blue Impulse seem second rate, but I guess they do their best.

    I count 6 rings.

Congratulations, but there are only 5 Olympic rings, hence my comment that they'll get the correct number the next time. I thought my meaning would be obvious, but I guess not.

Anyway, I always loved spending time in Yokohama-in many ways more enjoyable than Tokyo.

Or maybe Tokyo Gov. Ishihara asked them to practice making the Olympic rings to try to impress the selection committee on their next visit. They'll get the 5 rings correct the next fly-by.

Obama made a lot of campaign promises he can't keep, and sensible people-albeit the few that are in the U.S. Congress-realize that to close the special prisons at Guantanamo Bay requires a plan detailing what to do with the inmates.

To take away gun rights requires something more than certain liberals have in Washington, regardless of their majority in the U.S. Congress for now.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure there are very many big differences between supposed liberals and conservatives anymore. They've all failed the United States of America this decade.

Japan to relax arms export ban

Japan has been heading in this direction for quite some time, so this should come as no surprise. Look at the agreement with the U.S. and MHI about the Patriot missile system production. This is the 21st century.
