Obama seems happy to be on the road again, almost like he's more comfortable campaigning for office than actually being the one in charge.

A town meeting on the West Coast followed by an appearance on a late-night show.

The man is spreading himself too thin and is going to have to change course before his presidency starts to mirror Jimmy Carter's.

"Obama asked Americans to back his plans to overhaul health care, change energy policies, and spend more on roads, education and many other areas to boost the stalled economy. The resulting large deficits will be temporary and justified, he said."

No, we can't do everything you want to do, Mr. Obama, and much of it is not justified.

What excuses will he make three and a half years from now leading up to an election he will lose after being a complete failure as president?

Eight years of George W. Bush followed by four years with Barack Obama.

    God help us!

Congratulations to Japan on another win over Cuba.

For those who criticize the tournament's format-i.e. the many times Korea and Japan have to play-I see a positive in it, namely, that we have a large enough sampling to see who has the better team, and thus far it has been Korea.

Regardless, the tournament will either undergo major changes as to how it is conducted, and the time of year it is played, or there will be little interest in holding it again in 2013.

"If she gets married, the baby will find out, if the 88cm are for real."

Nope. If you know where to look, you can find the evidence on the Internet that proves otherwise. This has been discussed on JT many times previously.

I've got to give Aki Hoshino credit, though. She's made one heckuva career for herself since 2002 after her breasts blossomed bountifully.

"If this case had anything to do with rape porn and confinement videos, then Japan would have many of these cases every year. They don't. So obviously, the contention is absurd."

Anybody that has lived in Japan for many years and doesn't look at the country through rose-colored lenses knows the truth.

I'll bet you my contention is spot on, but let's wait for further reports about what the police find in this bozo's apartment and what people who know him have to say.

I'm glad the girl was rescued and I hope she was not sexually assaulted by this clown.

However, taking a look at the bigger picture, it's self-defeating to prosecute cases like this when Japan's colossal porn industry legally cranks out tons of confinement and rape vids of school girls each year.

Japan has too many guys perverted by such stuff, and this 35 y/o dirtbag was a teenager when such stuff became commonplace on the shelves of video shops.

He's just continuing in the fine tradition of that failed president, George W. Bush. He obviously didn't learn from the failed economic and foreign policies of the Bush administration. As a matter of fact, history does repeat itself, as evidenced by Obama's wrong-headed acceleration of our involvement in Afghanistan-this coming after a campaign in which he said he would save billions by getting us out of Iraq in a year and a half, and with the media being derelict in its duty by not asking how spending extra billions each month in Afghanistan would make such a claim feasible.

It seems as if we can't get it right in choosing our leaders since the two administrations of Bill Clinton.

China should concern itself with dealing with Pres. Obama for only 4 years.

If she hadn't married into the Imperial family, she might very well be U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's counterpart in Japan's Foreign Ministry today.

One hopes she is able to find solace in raising her daughter and the partial relief that must give her from the tentacles of the Imperial Household Agency.

"Kobayashi, who has been to Hamilton Island, adds, “People in Japan are living a very stressful life everyday. My message in my official promotional video is that ‘We, Japanese, should experience a place like a heaven – Hamilton Island – before we die.’”

The promotional videos were requested to be "creative and memorable," but Kobayashi's position unsurprisingly takes refuge in the "We Japanese" concept. Rock on, Mieko.

I generally agree with the first statement; the second one seems to be both, in my opinion.

"Japan is like a giant collective little kid who is packing up his toys and pouting his way home after the big kids don't want to play anymore."

So nearly six decades after the end of the U.S. Occupation following WWII, Japan is something like 12 1/2 years old, instead of 12. A pre-pubescent Japan just hasn't been able to mature enough in its relations with the rest of the world.

Japan will continue down the irrelevancy slide on the world economic stage, and will continue to be mired in the ongoing political morass, as well as being hampered by unyielding social problems for a long time.

How the Japanese will initate some sort of 21st century Meiji Restoration/post WWII Showa Miracle Recovery is impossible to say.

The future looks very bleak, Japan.

Moe Oshikiri has always struck me as a real sweetheart.

I think she could do without a pro baseball player boyfriend, though.

Keep it up with the random acts of smiles. Lord knows people living in Tokyo will benefit from them.

When I lived in Niigata, the people I met there were generally interested in this issue for obvious reasons, and disgusted that successive governments for many years had virtually ignored the abductee issue.

What benefit would there be for N. Korea to "come clean" on this issue? Japan has taken a hard-line stance this decade against N. Korea concerning the abductees, tying any deals on aid/normalization of relations etc. to the resolution of these cases.

However, no matter how tragic the situation may be, Japan has foolishly put all of its eggs in one basket, so to speak, while the other countries dealing with N. Korea are taking a much broader approach to issues like N. Korea's nuclear program.

There is no military option available to Japan to force the issue.

Making another tear-jerker movie about the abductees won't help, either.

    N. Korea can thumb its nose at Japan for the foreseeable future.

Posted in: Do you believe some Japanese abductees are still alive in North Korea, and if you do, why do you think North Korea hasn't come clean on the issue?

The NPB champ would have virtually no chance to win a best-of-seven series against the World Series champ.

MLB draws on a much deeper talent pool from around the world as compared to the insular Japanese approach to the game.

There will probably never be a true World Series in a format like the soccer World Cup because there is no legitimate business reason for MLB to alter its season once every 4 years to do so. Unless someone can conclusively demonstrate otherwise, it will be business as usual.

As far as the result of this game goes, it should come as no surprise to anyone that Japan's best in peak condition for the WBC could win a meaningless spring training game against the SF Giants.

"It's pretty small loss considering valuable assets like Ichiro, Johjima..."

How is Johjima such a valuable asset, some14some?

The guy had a marked dropoff in his production over the first 3 years of his MLB career, culminating in a pathetic .227 with a paltry 7 HRs and 39 RBIs in 2008. His defense is getting better either, and the Mariners are on the hook for a 3-year contract starting this year at $8 milion per annum.

The Mariners will long rue the day early last season that they gave the new contract to Johjima-just as so many Mariners' teammates will eventually want to strangle the egomaniac, Ichiro Suzuki.

**Netherlands topples Dominican Republic at WBC **

WOW!Congratulations to the Netherlands for putting the Dominican Republic in its much-deserved place out of the WBC.

The Dominican Republic came into the tourney unprepared mentally and physically and got humiliated-worse than the U.S. did three years ago.

    Good luck to the Netherlands!

The rankings based on available talent pool, and not on finishes in select international competitions:

1)U.S.A.: (Still has the largest number of talented players top to bottom.)

2)Dominican Republic: (The top-notch performances of this island nation's best for decades speaks for itself.)

3)Japan: (Some exceptional individual talents to be sure, but the overall level of play in NPB has regressed as this decade has progressed.)

4)S. Korea: (Has gotten the job done in a number of international competitions in recent years, but lacks the overall talent and depth of the aforementiioned countries, and its pro league doesn't stack up against NPB, and obviously pales in comparison to MLB.)

5)Cuba: (The talent pool is a far cry from what it used to be prior to this decade, but they still do an admirable job with what is left to them after the numerous defections to MLB, many of whom do not measure up once they have to play a 162-game season against most of the world's best players, instead of the half-ass short competitions where a lot of the world's best from elsewhere do not show up.)

6-10: A pick'em from Venezuela, Taiwan, Mexico, Canada and Australia.

(I didn't include Puerto Rico as a seperate entry because some of their players choose to play for the U.S. team in the WBC, and some do not.)
