Dispense with political correctness and allow people in responsible positions in the government to do their job without fear of repercussions concerning racism and religious discrimination and the U.S. will do a better job keeping the country safe from terrorist attacks.
But since this is not possible, we'll just continue to muddle along and damn the consequences.

The last thing TV stations should do is cut back on salaries for their beautiful "joshiana".
Ratings would plummet as more people got their news elsewhere.

Will Japan be around in the year 2500?
Few, if any, of the issues we all think so important in 2010 will impact whatever the mass of humanity is in 2500.
People will either learn to cooperate much better along many lines as this century progresses, let alone the next few following ones, or they're may not be much of a world left anyway.
I'd just like to believe there will be a half-way decent one for us to live in for the foreseeable future.
We shall see.

I commend the Chinese for much of what they are doing to become a world economic power.
The U.S. will have to gradually accept China more as an equal in all matters global over the next decade, especially with China have a tight grip on the pursestrings of the U.S. debt, and Japan will gradually fade to an undeniable second-rate economic power, if it's not already in there.

Bullying has its role in sumo, and Japanese life in general, to get people to conform to generally accepted behavioral norms.
Sumo is a tough way of life, physically and mentally. It is not just a sport.
That being said, there has to be a limit as to the physical nature of the bullying, and the tragic consequences that can happen when no one puts a stop to it, as we found out recently.
The Japan Sumo Association has a lot of work to do to revive Japan's ancient sport.
Just hope it's not too late.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki might not have given up on the idea of co-hosting the 2020 Summer Games, but they are just wasting time trying to convince the IOC otherwise.
Japan could find that hosting the 2020 Games in those cities would be a double-edged sword when World War II history would be brought up.
