globalwatcher, you make no sense. You say:
To which I say:
And now you say:
So which is it? The US apparently didn't know on the 16th as there wasn't an evacuation alert until the 21st, according to you. But everybody knew? But Japan? And the US State Department? And GE, TEPCO? So it's just everyone else but those parties?
Hmm, except the first 20km zones were established on the 15th: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-12740843
Hmm, seems like Japan knew at least on the 15th, ne?

Do you have to make the exact same post in two threads? Especially when it's wrong in both. Everybody had a damn good idea what was going on once we had our hydrogen explosions - these were reported extensively in both domestic AND international media at the time.

What use is baseless guessing like this? The situation is crap enough without utterly baseless speculation.

I know you hate TEPCO, but step back and look at how ludicrous the argument you just made is. Saying there are no "new abnormalities" does NOT mean the current situation is merely an abnormality - though it certainly is an abnormal situation, ne? And more, obviously.

How is saying "We are not seeing any new abnormality" downplaying anything? The quake didn't cause any new damage - what do you expect them to say?

It was only a Shindo 4 there. Seriously nothing to worry about at this point.

You could just as easily say "according to a completely random person on the street" with as much credibility.

I don' t think that's in the scope of what they are trying to do with this film. There's just too much to be told to put it all in one documentary, so I'm sure we'll be seeing a host of films over the next few years dealing with all sorts of aspects of this disaster.

It is and it isn't. Some surfaces can easily be decontaminated in such a way but soil definitely cannot.
Once the radiation release is stopped or mostly stopped it will probably be best to store the soil that is removed somewhere near the reactor site. Over time try to decontaminate as much land as possible and gradually reduce the exclusion zones. VERY gradually.

The Feds always get pissy when some state or municipality dares defy their edict. And it's usually 'for the children' as well. Business as usual.
If California wants this, let California have it. What's wrong with letting people decide for themselves what they want to put into their bodies?

1985, NetNinja. If you are a Hanshin fan you just need to remember - 1985. Heck, they've only been Central champs 5 times.
Best of luck to Hanshin and their fans, but it's always a long road filled with heartbreak and loss.

Why am I not surprised that everyone is speculating wildly about how this poor worker died when no facts at all are known? I could have been radiation related, but it could have been heart related, or stress, or any number of other things. Maybe he's a heavy drinker or is in poor shape. It's stupid to speculate before any actual facts are known.

Mostly lose.
Quite a few teams treat their foreign players well. My Chiba Lotte Marines built a lot of their marketing last year around a Korean player, even though he pretty well sucked. Sikorski was loved for year by Lotte fans, too.

Why do people continue to say this? Japanese people are not stupid, backwards children. Westerners are not so much better informed - probably much LESS informed as the average westerner in Japan isn't so proficient in Japanese language to know what the press and actual people are thinking and saying.

@utrack, that map tells us noting about current conditions in Fukushima or elsewhere. What sort of particles were released? For how long? We know that radiation levels in Kanto were elevated for a while but they went down and are now normal. Is it the same in Iwaki? Seems they are still a bit elevated according to http://radiation.goo.ne.jp/

I've found where you know who you are talking to as people there isn't so much bullying, harassment, etc.

beangry, apparently you can't read Japanese as that map has radiation levels from over 6months ago! We all know there was radiation then. What dos that have to do with now?
Yep, they don't as it would be pretty pointless. Not all food is going to be tested, it is physically impossible and prohibitively expensive to test ALL food. You can only test a representative sampling. So why have a meaningless label on a package?
Sorry? Where is my lack of objectivity? I've looked at the facts, talked with experts and read experts' opinions and I base my opinions based on those facts. Not because activist groups tell me something and I neither know enough or am incapable of thinking critically for myself that I accept what people tell me (like Dr Kaku!) blindly. I suspect you are using the term "objective" to mean "doesn't agree with me and my hysteria".
Yeah, and supermarkets by me sold contaminated gyoza from China a few years back - people got really sick from that. What's your point?
Absolutely. They can also not come to the race if they so choose, and you have the right to move to your home country. We have all sorts of rights.
??? I think you need to watch your blood pressure again there, beangry. You're going to pop something if you continue to be this angry.

No, only when you are irrationally paranoid, which just seems like it's everything you say. Especially when you say stuff like:
NOBODY says this. YOU say the government and TEPCO say this. Nobody says this at all.
Really, outside the 80km zone? BS. And note that I specifically mentioned the 80km zone in my first post before you get your blood pressure up and start calling me a government shill or TEPCO apologist.
You must not be able to read Japanese because all the food in my local supermarket has the prefecture and city of origin. Steer clear of contaminated areas and you are way more likely to catch e.coli or listeria or some other non-radiation related bug than you are to get radiation-tainted food.
If you are THAT worried about the lack of labeling, and the lies, and the possibility of further contamination, and you kids' health, why the heck would you be living anywhere in Japan near Fukushima?

That's pretty funny! I want you to show me examples of explosions that AREN'T exothermic! Pretty much by definition massive amounts of exploding hydrogen is ridiculously exothermic. I think you need to reference the definition of exothermic!
