Maybe the guy did try to retrieve it but when he realized it was so heavy and there was a funky smell coming out of it, decided he would rather call the cops than take a peek himself. At least that is what I would do with a heavy, abandoned, foul-smelling suitcase were I ever to find one...

She looks great...nice muscle tone in her legs! In Japan, at many schools, they have cheerleading squads that don't actually cheer at games for sports teams. Instead, the squad is considered another sports team of the school. The girls practice hard every day just like all the other sports clubs and do their thing at competitions. Don't see a thing wrong with gals keeping fit, having fun and working hard at what they do.
P.S. She is a kid executing an athletic manoeuver. Get your heads out of the gutter and quit staring at her crotch!! ;P

I have been next to folks on the train who were wearing "in the ear" earphones and it was easy for me to tell that the volume was low, but I could still hear it a bit. Our ears don't really insulate the sound as much as we would like to think that they do. While it doesn't really bother me, people like that guy love even the tiniest bit of justification for their complaints.
You should have turned the iPod completely off and left the earphones in...that way you would know for sure if he was just being a jerk. And you could have embarassed the crap out of him by handing him your inactive iPod in front of everyone.

LOL @ cleo! Well said! I totally agree. And it does look like it is faux fur. Still hideous though, since none of the outfits make sense. Except possibly the first one. I think that is the only one that could possibly pass for normal clothing that one could dare to wear in public other than on a runway.

I wouldn't call this photo ingratiating or assume he has just turned into a brainless idiot just because of the moment captured in this photo. Looks more to me like someone had just said something funny and all three of them are having a bit of a laugh. Chill out, people!

Wow! Really? Apparently you have never attended it. Thousands of "spring break-ers" would beg to differ.
So if these folks are not from Tempe, are you saying they are hicks from LA? I'm so confuuused!!! LOL. Just teasing. Couldn't resist. I do know what you were trying to say.
Matsui definitely does look strange in red. And yeah, he probably is getting close to the end of his career...but I reckon he has got a couple of good seasons left in him yet!

Hmmm...just how tall is the real cop standing next to the smaller "life-size" cutout that is supposedly 170cm??? Hellloooo officer.

Definitely nice to see pics of women like her on here instead of smiling, vapid talentless zombies who are only asked such in depth questions such as "How about your love life?", etc.
Good on all of them! Great to see a pic with THREE women heading into space! (I don't usually get to read about the space missions, so if this is not the first time there were three women heading into space, please excuse my ignorance of such previous missions).
And yes, Ms. Yamazaki should definitely be applauded! Not easy being from Japan, female and rising so high. Pretty rare for J-women! Definite role model for a lot of young girls here!

I think they were talking about her hair when they mentioned the Lady Gaga look; they weren't talking about the dress. As for the dress...hmmm...not sure if I like it or not. Like the colours and the cut of the body, but that poofy pirate sleeve just doesn't look right next to the sleekness of the body. Oh well...she is Miss Universe and I am certainly not...doubt that dress would any good at all on someone else...she at least does it a bit of justice.

It is indeed sad. No way to know yet if it was some guy trying to get shelter or if it was someone who intentionally sought out those tracks in order to commit suicide. No matter what, it is really sad.
And the saddest of all is that this kind of thing is so commonplace in Japan, that most are pretty much desensitized to it. That is why we see reports that detail the economic cost and time lost with regard to these incidents as opposed to shock over a life lost.

Hee hee...want to rephrase that folks???
Seriously though, it was one heluva game! Both teams were amazing and many people have much shorter fingernails (if any) today because of it. The U.S. and Canada were well matched, but we had Crosby and that sealed it up for us in the end.
I think the U.S. should be bloody proud of their silver medal!! They were worthy adversaries and made us work HARD for that gold.
Well, except for one player who doesn't deserve his silver medal.
He is an Olympic medalist. Not exactly something to sneeze at. Cripes. You don't like it, give it back.
Great game, guys!!!!

LOL...no kidding...OH MY GOD! THEY CELEBRATED!!! The shock, the horror!!!! Gasp!
You know what, who cares if the gals got in trouble for it. They did it and now will be able to carry that memory with them forever and tell their grandkids about it! Good on them!
And you know what else...if one of the men's teams had done it, people would barely bat an eye.

Hey now...not all zoos are plain wrong. I used to work at a zoo where every animal there was a rescued animal. There were several different species and had they been released back into the wild, they would instantly have been toast. Each of them had lots of space to run and exercise and all of the staff there, not just the zookeepers, knew the animals all by name and how to relate to each one. And they were respected as the amazing animals that they are, not like pets.
As for aquariums, yes, I agree, the whales and dolphins there need far more space to move around and should be released back into the wild. These places have been in existence for a very long time and I have yet to see one with facilities sufficient for the whales and dolphins that they house. The trainers love them and have a wonderful relationship with them, yes, but these animals need more freedom than they get inside those tanks!

It is interesting to note a couple of the comments up above from some who have worked for Japanese companies in the U.S. and felt things were working very well until they had to succumb to doing things "the American way". And the interesting thing is that the overwhelming majority of the recalls worldwide are in the U.S. Could it have more to do with the way things are run in the U.S. rather than it being Toyota itself?
That is not to say that Toyota is not at fault. There obviously would not be the same recalls in other countries if that were the case. But the vast amount of recalls in the U.S. makes one wonder why is the situation so much worse there?

mindovermatter: I was thinking pretty much the same thing...or perhaps that he got scammed into paying a prostitute up front who then ran off with everything, including the clothes. Can't exactly tell wifey that; the thug story definitely would save face! lol
And as for your comment...
I wouldn't! LOL

hokkaidoguy...you are correct. It is not about stopping terrorist threats in Tokyo. It is being tested in Tokyo (of course, if works well enough, there is potential to launch it in Tokyo.) It is about other countries' interest in buying this technology and using as they see fit in their countries. I think it could be useful to stop would-be bomb makers, yes. And what better way to test it than by putting it through the rigours of possibly the world's busiest train stations? I just hope that there isn't really intention for it to become ubiquitous. What a logistical headache that could be. But at airports or events, sure. Makes total sense.
And no matter what, you have to admit, ivancoughalot's scenario was funny... all too likely! lol

ivancoughalot...that is hilarious! Mainly because it just might be true!!! lol
3 seconds is a long time the way people move through the gates. And I cannot imagine they would go and install gates that would have you wait 3 seconds before letting you through! Can you imagine the queues at rush hour???

I am definitely grateful to many conservation societies for standing up for many endangered creatures in the world. But grateful to the SSCS?? Nope. So far, they are only encouraging the Japanese gov't to step in and work harder to ensure that the whaling "research" is not stopped. michaelqtodd had an excellent point earlier: that whaling has been stopped for about 2 weeks now. But it has only been stopped for the time being. It is just going to keep happening year after year until people can understand why it needs to be stopped. Long term. Forever. Not for a few weeks every single year. SSCS's actions are ensuring that it will continue and continue. They have no long term solution.
Anyone remember the fable about the sun and the wind competing to get the man to remove his jacket? SSCS is the wind and Japan is the man. The harder they blow, the tighter Japan is going to hold on.
