tmarie: I have to say though many Japanese folks I've spoken with are alarmed at just how dangerous this country has become over the past few years.

$$$ based on what, reading the news? I live in, yes, the big S, Saitama, and have yet to ever witness anything bad and that is after having lived here for over 8 years and I don't live in the countryside. If you read the news enough it's gonna lead you to think the whole world is evil when it actually makes up much less that 1% of the population.

For all those who keep scratching their heads as to why they think this is ONLY HAPPENING IN SAITAMA!!!! It happens EVERYWHERE IN JAPAN, but reporters are messing with your minds!!!! They prey on adults who have the mind of a child and think that just because they only print stories from Saitama, it only HAPPENS in saitama, and therefore is incredible news. Grow up people.

and people wonder why/how pedestrians in this country get hit so much! Look and them walking near the middle, way off the sidewalk! The cars won't honk either to scare em off, just politely drive around them, until one day a car won't see them and woosh! they'll be gonners.

lol, well, if all u do is read the media then of course you're gonna think saitama is crazy. I doubt any of you live here. 4.5 years here and never once seen anything "crazy". Have a great day, from sunny happy SAITAMA!! -population over 7 million people, and one of the smallest prefectures in Japan
