The real question is how Noripi's arrest will impact the election. My view is that her arrest is a ruse by the LDP to divert attention away from the election, sow apathy about politics, and thereby ensure a victory for the LDP on Sunday.

De Menthe has written some fairly thoughtful books on Japan in the past, but I've always found him a bit gullible for categorizing the Japanese en masse as a special people. That he now quotes Dr Tadanobu Tsunoda, an utter crackpot whose research has been firmly repudiated across the board, is reason enough to dismiss this book as a load of crap. I've lost all respect for this 'respected' Japan veteran.

Son of an NHK announcer, this guy never had to do any real work. Just a pretty boy who used his father's money to travel the world and get TV roles. For the last 15 years or so he has made his money by playing the "playboy" role so the media can talk about him and he can get TV appearances.
