The reason pot is illegal is because it makes people less uptight. Authorities are afraid of open minds and enlightened thinking, especially in Japan.

Wolfpack, the 2010 defense budget has gone from $655 to $664 billion. How you or Sean Hannity can call that a cut in defense spending shows the angry little fantasy world you guys live in. As for the "terrorists" that will be released into the United States, are you possibly referring to the Uighur Chinese that were long ago deemed not to be a threat?

Let's celebrate Japan's victory in an American game by eating a hamburger at a Japanese subsidiary of an American corporation! The postmodernism of it all makes the head spin . . .

'John Rabe' will probably not show in theaters in Japan, but whoever releases it on DVD should make sure to include Japanese subtitles. Japan needs a bit more education on this event.

Not a shred of evidence for this. Of course it doesn't matter. In Japan, reality is whatever the authorities say it is. The puppet masters know that pot is a substance that often helps open the minds of those who are looking for that, encourages creativity and thinking outside the box. Thinking outside the box is not what Japan's leaders want. If Waseda and the old boys' network were serious about protecting Japan's physical, mental, and social health, they might consider condemning alcohol first. Alcohol abuse leads millions down a sad road of divorce, domestic abuse, vandalism, financial ruin, rape, chronic health problems, etc.

bamboohat--it mostly has to do with the distributors. Two studios, Toho and Shochiku, own most of the theaters in Japan and thus control when and in how many places foreign films get shown. They are very conservative and want to know how the films do elsewhere before committing theater space. They also want to build the anticipation as a part of promotion. Those are not the only factors, but certainly the biggest ones.

Scorsese had better be careful not to bash the Japanese if he wants to sell the film here. He'd better twist history a bit. Like in the end the idealistic Jesuit priest learns the honor of the samurai way, the subtlety of the Japanese spirit, the beauty of feudalism. How misunderstood the Japanese are.

No mention of the babies left to bake to death inside cars while their addict parents play this pathetic game. Or the kids left at home unattended and end up falling off balconies or burning the apartment down. Pachinko is the dumbest form of addictive gambling, run by gangsters and kept "legitimate" by the ex police chiefs who inherit managerial posts at parlors. Disillusioned is right. A lot of the profits go to North Korea, but you'll never hear the rightwing thugs in trucks blaring this fact, since they're in on the take as well.

The Christians did not develop or utilize these technologies as a conscious expression of their belief in Jesus. These self-detonators and beheaders are following this course as an interpretation of Islam. However fringe this interpretation may be, I think it is fair to say that the fact that this kind of medieval worldview can exist nowadays says something about the religion it flowered from. As does the fact that for convicts who like to convert in prison, the most popular choice is Islam.
