I used to think Yes. Then I learned these organizations have to give the money to the local government then work with them to allocate.
Posted in: Do you think giving money to organizations like the Red Cross, Oxfam, UNICEF, etc, is the best way to make charitable donations when there are natural disasters?

Yes, it put the citizens at ease and shows the global investor community that Japan is serious about risk management. The losers are the big power company contractors.

@combinibento, What? That is the entrance cost not the annual fee. It's on the TAC website if you bother to research.
Anyway, this event is open to the public and moneys go to charity. Therefore attending this over priced concert is like giving a donation to Tohoku. Unlike a cash giveaway donation, at least you can see a concert in return.

Rags to riches story gone wrong. She was one of ten siblings who was working in a hostess bar at 18. Read; she came from near poverty and used her sexuality to earn cash for the family. (not saying she was a prostitute just a good hostess)

I saw an interview with a Japanese family who lost their son in the 911 attacks. The father thru tears was expressing how he should have been captured alive. That way real justice could have been served.

A lot of these ODA's are loans with low interest. Often, they get paid back. Other times they get lost though. Sometimes ODA's are grants that allow public work projects and ensure a seat for Japanese companies to work there. These won't stop.
Posted in: Do you think Japan should cut back its ODA commitments to other countries and allocate the money instead to earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in the Tohoku region?

"Ignorance is bliss. You flick a switch and the light turns on... no need to ponder the source of the electricity until there is a problem.

Who's ignorant? Look up Kashiwazaki accident for starters. Protests have been going on for decades in Japan. Who sponsors the media? Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Tepco... Protestors have no money in the game.
