Reality check for Toyota ! While you all in Japan are expressing your contempt for the big 3 they are about to swing a coup to wipe the Hondas, Mitsubishis, Suzukis, and yes Toyotas off the map. All this concern over GM going bankrupt is a total red herring. GM is about to make a major move into the electric car business on the back of Uncle Sam ! And when it happens foreign automakers are gonna be left in the dust. I can't see penny pinching Japan offering up any support to turn Toyota gas burners over to hybrids or electric... yet that is what is about to happen in the US with their auto manufacturers. This deal has been in the works for years and is part of the US governments strategy to get the US off its dependency of foreign oil. Now the Japanese have been snickering about the fate of Chrysler, GM, and Ford for the last few years... now they are about to get worked by one of the most ingenious business coups in the last 100 years!

Yosh ! Americans kick ass on the high seas ! Now if the rest of the planet took Somali pirates as seriously as the US there wouldn't be a problem. From here on out when you see these second rate thugs... shoot first- ask questions later ! Well done US !

This is too damn funny, I mean how many samurai actually suffered from "bleeding ulcers" ? And an "I told ya so" shout out to all those posters that have been saying from the start of the WBC that the tournement puts unnecessary stress on both the mind and body. Actually leading to tons of problems later on in the Major League Baseball season. I can't help but shake my head in disbelief as Ichiro will now be sitting on the bench for weeks, and probably more as these things can flare up at anytime, while his team, Seattle, trys to put together a respectable season.

Americans have been building quality cars for years. JD Power and Associates is one of the truly reputable surveys out there. Consumer Reports has been in the pockets of Japanese auto companies for years. Great to see Ford, Chrysler, and GM finally getting some positive recognition, that many of us have known about for years.

If Darvish is any kind of competitor, he can't be happy about this sssignment... cmon now, China ? This game is a gimme and the only way Darvish can approach it is with a no-no, as in a "no-hitter" ! Anything less is a failed outing in my book.

"We believe that American manufacturers and service firms are well positioned globally because they are increasingly delivering what the world prefers and wants. U.S. worker productivity in manufacturing continues to increase at a rate faster than most of the major competitor nations. The reasons for eventual success are rooted in marketing factors. Decades of dedication to innovation, quality, customer-centrism, marketing research, and branding, is providing American companies with an advantage. As the 2008 Business Week annual ranking of the 100 Best Global Brands shows, even if difficult times, 52 of the leading brands were American."

So what's up with Japan ? Why does thss nation continue to block access to their market while looking for excuses or openly criticising American made goods ? Combined with China, Japan has a trade deficit with the USA of well over 500 billion dollars ! If anyone is looking for the root cause of the global economic crisis look no further than export obsessed mrket protecting nations like the two mentioned here. And to think, Toyota has now advertised their intentions to go after the European market !

Really now, I've traveled to dozens of countries all over the world. Only Japan frets over stuff like this. Ther rest of the planet could care less about their own individual genetic make up. Japanese need to get over themselves and focus more on ways to reduce racism and discrimination.

    So... which is it ?

    A) "The main cause for the poor results was sliding demand for tires caused by stagnating auto markets around the world crippled by the U.S. financial crisis and its fallout."

    B) "The strong yen, which erodes Japanese exporters’ earnings, also hurt, erasing 45 billion yen from its operating profits, according to Bridgestone. Rising material costs and surging oil prices had subsided recently but continued to be high, it said."

    OR

C)"Consumer spending has weakened in Japan, export growth has slowed, demand for tires has also fallen in the U.S. and Europe, while growth is also slowing in China and other parts of Asia, it said."

Seems to me blaming the US financial crisis is nothing more than childish fingerpointing.

    Sushisake3,

"Heh, President Obama has done more good for his country than the previous president did in years"

For example ? All he's done so far is spend 700 trillion dollars, initiate fears world wide about possible US market protection, and sit back while the Dow Jones has dropped 500 points ! Throw in cabinet members bailing ship over "idealogical differences" and others resigning in humiliation over tax evasion, and... well, I can't imagine a worse start for any President since the Hoover administration. And it could get worse ! Imagine if North Korea's planned test missile happens to land in downtown Tokyo !

    Sushisake3,

"Sarge, you are wrong on so many levels. You still just don't get it. You think Iraqis should somehow be greatful to a country that invaded them without reason?"

Are these the same Iraqis that couldn't get a noose around Saddam Husseins neck quick enough ?

"the Queen's English. Heck, most of the population of the UK don't speak it. I don't speak it."

Stop the presses ! Alfgarnett speaks it,

"Alfie and his tart would be in reform school to learn decency , amnners and resopect and the parents would be locked up for neglect and abuse. Britain will come back strong , we always does"

Yep, ol "amners and resopect" Just like the Queen mum herself.

"I learned about being Japanese,” said Minami, 40

So she learned that Japanese are communal people who prefer to live close together. And she learned that Japanese enjoy living in confined quarters much like they still do today. And she must have learned about the problems Japanese have with decision making which led to their internment (seems the Japanese at that time failed to express exactly which side of the pacific their loyalties swayed). And finally she must have learned alot about the character of Japanese people most notably their tendency towards "meisms" like "ware-ware nihonjin, Uchi/soto, honne/tatemae" etc. In short, she must have come away thinking that life in the internment camps was more or less the same as life in Japan except they were provided with spacious living quarters, quality medical care, and plots of land for gardening... if I could be so lucky today !
