With a little help from the Japanese to begin with. Anyway, now the Koreans have this zeal, this will to succeed that the Japanese had half a century ago. According to my personal observation during visits to Korea and stays in Japan I found in the 70s Korea was a developing nation, vigorously trying to catch up with Japan, and copying technology, something still going on on that peninsula and the huge country it is linked to. Japan at the time was way ahead. But that has changed. This happens all the time, has happened throughout history. When a certain level, standard has been reached, performance drops off. Why? People are satisfied with what they have achieved. Workers want a break, more perks and of course money. They will lose out to those who still have to get there. Those willing to endure hardships, those who live in countries where people can climb up, improve their lives, getting the luxuries the Japanese already have. Just my 2 cents. No offense to any nation or people intended.

Complaints of kids and adults alike about vegetables would disappear if
1) One could lay hands on real fresh produce (which is rare) 2) People would learn to cook

Very crafty piece of work. China blaming Japan for an incident it created. Japan caving in to the big bad bully. Sad.
Keep a wary eye on this nation. Warnings went out half a century ago. Territorial disputes with Asian nations continue. It won't be long before China will start claiming all of the seas and the islands in Asia.

Nissan ought to work out a deal with local governments to finance charging stations that would be set up in parking areas, The number of charging stations being in proportion to the number of cars sold. Illinois could become a trend setter by buying the vehicles to replace gasoline powered ones.

I've been here for more than 40 years and in those years I think I have noticed a couple of things too. It is true that most private homes do not have efficient thermal insulation, although that is rapidly improving. Also true is that Japanese homes have mainly fluorescent lighting instead of incandescent. Japan was probably the first nation that started using fluorescent lighting on a large scale. Refrigerators are small and very efficient and so are washing machines and the air conditioners. Like someones pointed out many homes use efficient frugal space heaters in the winter. Street lighting in residential areas is also modest fluorescent. In spite of all this it is always possible to save more energy: share a bath, go to bed earlier, switch off that TV when no one is watching, fill up that washing machine and I am sure there are more ideas.
In shops even now I see too much energy wasted. Uncovered, open freezers, which I consider a crime. Overkill of light in department stores, drug stores, filling stations. Shops with their doors open all seasons seemingly attempting to climate control the whole town. But this behavior is no longer across the board. I was pleased to notice that in the local post office the thermostat had been turned up (higher temperature) and at my filling station the air conditioner of the accommodation had been switched off. Thing is to get more shops, facilities to comply with guidelines and then we'll be able to get by without nuclear energy.

You can say that with a smile? Yeah, right, blame it on external forces. Let's forget about self control and common sense.

Tupperware is hugely overvalued/overpriced. Asian manufacturers produce products of the same or better quality at much lower prices. But will the American consumer wake up to that truth? The Asians need to try harder to get into the market.

Did Toyota learn this from Volkswagen who have been engaged in reforestation projects elsewhere, but supports panda research in China? Anyway, all very worthwhile projects. Desertification is a serious environmental problem.

China keeps prodding, testing the waters, trying to find out how far it can go before a major incident erupts. At the same time pretending it wants to maintain good relations with Japan, the country that brought it misery but also technology. Democracy will take a little more time.

It is true that European (soccer) matches attract the lowest of scum. It can be hard for players from a different part of the world to cope with that. And BTW there is nothing wrong with someone showing their emotions.
